Clean High Pull Technique

Is the clean high pull mainly a deadlift into an upright row all in one motion?

Oly Lifting coach says : elbows bend - power end

(means you should never limiting your own pulling power of the legs, hips and back by starting the try to pull out of the arms earlier than absolutely necessary)

So start the exercise like you would do a DL - with straight arms and keep them straight for as long as possible

Furthermore, since you are very weak from the waist up (when you cannot use your lower body any more), you should try to execute the first part of the motion in a very explosive manner, to get as much momentum as possible to aid you.

Thanks.

you can kip it off your thighs too and bring your hips into it more

so its like

deadlift(legs)
kip(hip)
jump&shrug(traps calves)
arms at the last bit

While it’s important to get your glutes involved you don’t want the bar swing out from the body when you kip. You need to engage the whole posterior chain as Schultzie outlined but make sure the bar moves vertically the whole time. It takes some practice to coordinate the leg drive, then the bar touching the thighs simultanious with the hip drive followed by the jumps and shrug.

you may have to adjust your grip width
