Clean Bulk vs. Dirty Bulk

For your goals, I think it makes zero sense to “dirty” bulk or whatever, just ensure an adequate protein intake and make consistent progress in the gym.

However the claim that the slow and steady approach will yield just as much muscle for everyone… well that statement seems to ignore people like George Leeman and others who have made awesome rapid progress bulking up heavy and getting brutally strong. I don’t think you get to a 900lb deadlift going slow and steady. Most people of course want no part of that kind of approach, myself included… but it’s wrong to ignore it like it’s not a valid method.[/quote]

Its not that such an approach is undesirable in general, its just that goals of that sort are unattainable for most people. Yes turning into a blob for a few years will allow someone with the genetics to actually be a monster to eventually realize his full potential. Most people will end up screwing themselves with that approach.

Even said “brutally strong” blob should rein things in time (like Leeman did) and not end up permabulking for the next couple decades, pissing away whatever potential he had in the process.

However, its generally a good idea for a skinny kid to focus on SCALE WEIGHT gain for the first year or so unless youre starting out skinny fat. Dont allow yourself to get chubby beyond your initial years.

i really agree with this although i prefer staying leaner all together. but if you choose to spend your first 2-3 years bulking a little hard something in the relm of 3-4lbs a month its not that big of a deal and can be dieted off easily. but as a natty past 3 years of training your putting on about 3-4lb of muscle a year and it just gets worse and worse after that.

so why someone would choose to stay bulked (chubby) or continue to bulk as they did within their first years of training is fucking beyond me.

Agree with all that, bulking is definitely a young mans game. I started out fat and at 27 years old, so things are different for me. I cannot bulk however much I would want to at this point. However if I was starting out as a skinny youngster with what I know about training now, I would bulk up like a motherfucker. lol

Lol - was just thinking that.

Ah, there’s only so much to talk about with this shit - it’s not surprising the same topics get regurgitated over and over again.
