Hughes is a fucking animal. I kept telling my buddies that before the fight, and he proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Agree with most that its Randy’s fault, he played into Chuck’s hands. Oh well, to fight #3 we go.

“You cryin’, boy? You cryin’, boy? Maybe you should go back down to McDonald’s and get yourself a whine burger and some french cries. How 'bout a ‘Whine-a-ken?’ You little sissy boy. Def Leppard sucks!”
On the shamrock fight, was totally fixed that was obvious. We got one of the most experienced guys in the UFC fighting an up and coming star.
Shamrock is old and is past his prime, hes not gonna make a lota money and he isnt gonna be the ufc champ ever again.
Shamrock has how many fights 35 or something…and the guy slips on a kick? that doesnt even look like it would have really put him off balence…cmon
Shamrock did not bother to get in the guard at all, he had perfect chance to defend himself and did not
and most importantly

I agree 100%. The Hughes/ Trigg fight was amazing. I was in awe!
Rainjack - don’t worry these guys would have read this thread even with the new title.
So, I guess we shoulda not mentioned this until it came out on DVD, eh? Damn you, rainjack! Next time, pretend it never happened!
I am also pissed that someone had the nerve to post the conclusion to several Sopranos episodes from last spring. There might be about six people in the world that hadn’t seen that yet… have some respect! GOSH!
i’m so pissed i missed this fight
damn, i missed it
What did you guys think about the Hughes fight?? I thought he was done for when he caught the low blow but the ref didn’t stop it. He was getting wailed on, I can’t beleive he came back to throw Tripp in the rearnaked choke. Hughes is the man! All in all though, that was one of the best UFC’s I’ve seen in a while, lots of action and good cards.

This was, IMO, the fight to watch. While the Liddell fight was extremely impressive and the main reason I wanted to see the event in the first place, this one had the entire house on their feet. Well, at least at the party I was at.
Rookie21, I agree with you about the Shamrock fix. For all other doubters, read the posts in the Ken Shamrock Retire thread. I’ve pretty much given up on the UFC. I wouldn’t doubt it if the Couture/Lidell fight was fixed so there would be a 3rd fight. More hype, best two out of three wins.
Another thing, couple of the shots looked like eye gouges/scrapes. And Lidell’s last 3 wins have out been won that way.
PRIDE FC is much better.
I couldn’t believe how aggressive Randy was after the thumb in the eye. I wish he would have been a little more cautious until his vision returned to normal. Hughes was an animal even after the low blow.

There was a lot of discussion after the Shamrock fight about it possibly being fixed.
Any opinions about this fight being scripted? I didn’t see the fix in the Shamrock fight, nor do I think this one was fixed.
I just like hearing the conspiracy theories.

I’ve heard in the early days it was fixed by the Gracie’s. Seems reasonable, as they never fought top fighters. I also remember one of them, maybe Royce, had to fight Kimo, and he backed out because he was “hurt.” Not like Kimo was the best fighter around or anything either.
Not sure about the Gracies fixing fights. They brought the UFC to the US. They dominated in the early days because not many other fighters were very well rounded. There were essentially just strikers and grapplers. Once a grappler, like the Gracies latched on while grounded, it was almost always only a matter of time. And consider also that the weightclasses didn’t come in till later, and the Gracies fought them in all sizes.
Once the UFC started imposing restrictions and rounds/time limits, they were basically setting the grapplers up for failure at that time. Might have been for the good in the long run as grapplers have had to come with a mixed bag of tools, more striking and quicker submission work.
As for chickening out, not sure that I buy that either. Others have had to bow out of a tourney fight because of injury as well. Sometimes it’s just not worth continuing on to a second or third fight if you’re already hurt and know that you could come out much worse.
One final note, I think it was Ryan Gracie that fought Sakuraba in Pride 12 and had his elbow dislocated rather than tap out.

Yup, by Kilock.
I thought the St. Pier fight was pretty good. he schooled that boy but he kept getting up.
Hughes is definaly the man. Trigg is such an ass.

You heard wrong mate. Royce tapped Kimo out despite being massively out weighed.

Yeah, Royce tapped out Kimo in an armbar but got hurt doing it and couldn’t fight the next guy.

Royce got beat pretty good submitting Kimo. This led to the debacle of the "ninja’ Steve Jennum winning that UFC.
This is funny. Everyone is complaining about this being a spoiler thread, and I was just about to compliment Rainjack on his choice of non-spoiler titles. If you see a post-fight thread entitled “Chuck Liddell vs. Randy Couture,” do you really think that the outcome won’t be mentioned? Wow.
For the record, I ordered the fight tonight, since I had to work this weekend. I’ve been avoiding the Get A Life forum, Sherdog.com, and all other miscellaneous forums such that I wouldn’t find out what happened. I must say that I am both surprised and pleased with the outcome. I bet a lot of people lost a lot of money on this fight.
Can you say, “rubber match?” I knew you could!

Rainjack, for you:
At least that’s what I heard on NPR on the way home tonight…
