Chronic Marijuana Use ?

And, just for clarification, I didn’t question you conclusion. I merely pointed out that it was impossible to get to that conclusion from what you quoted. Now I suggest that you use your elite god given mental prowess and study some humility. You’re sounding too American.

Humility has always been a problem of mine. I try, but especially over the internet, it can be kind of difficult. However, it’s still true that it is very hard to get into the gymnasium, and very many of the students are smokers and drinkers, which was the main point of my post, in response to the statement that smart people smoke (sure, I like being in what our teachers are constantly calling an elite school, but it’s not my intention to brag to anybody about it).

As for my conclusion, it has again, nothing to do with Boole, but is sound by the rules of statistic.

I drink everyday and pull in $120K a year.

Travis, then you must be a civilian employee for Uncle Sam unless things have changed drastically in the armed forces in 40 years.

The amount of ignorance on both sides of this coversation is mind-boggling. Most of you either need to smoke a lot less, or a lot more, and get your heads screwed on straight.

Fact: Weed isn’t physically addictive - you idiots spouting about ‘pmg mental addiction’ should probably keep in mind that your logic will therefore apply to ANYthing you find enjoyable, from chocolate to lifting weights to sleeping in.

Fact: There are a lot of losers who smoke weed. Guess what? There are a lot of losers who don’t smoke weed, too. Correlation does not imply causation.

I, too, would actually appreciate hearing some ACTUAL factual evidence about marijuana’s effect on bodybuilding goals, as I partake in it as frequently as I feel like. Premed major with a >3.8 GPA, I dare you to call me a slacker.

Professor X is, as usual, right. I’d be interested in his input on this.

Smart poeple like Cannabis, i noticed this in all my experience.

What crap. It makes you stupid. Why do you think it’s called dope?

The slowing down of decision making skills has been a known side effect of marijuana for many years, even back when it was thought to be completely safe.

I have smoked A LOT of marijuana. I have studied it extensively. I now think that I have become less intelligent due to my high use. I can only hope this will reverse in time.

If you think smart people use it then you are kidding yourself. Truly smart people either wouldn’t use, or would use knowing that they are doing something unhealthy. Only an idiot smokes thinking it’s not affecting them for the worse. [/quote]

You are what you believe yourself to be. If you believe that MJ made you worse then it propably did. My wife smoked all the time and graduates with a BS in Math. No problems there. I won’t even go into myself.

Rest assured it’s not the cannabis that made you slower, it’s your disposition towards it via the placebo effect.

Also since you studied it so extensively you should know that the term “dope” and “marijuana” are invented negative slang propaganda terms used to acheive political agendas. So in effect i find it amusing that you would ask me in such obvious ways that, how i could not know why it’s called dope?!? LOL! I guess it did affect YOUR reasoning and extrapolating skills from a given set of data.

I’m interested in knowing what is really worse for a person. Recently, I have met a person who drinks too much alcohol and smokes too much dope, and smokes cigarettes.

Because she has been drinking for a while, she cant remember stuff right. I dont think this is from the pot. When drunk sometimes cant remember what happened… this is a classic sign of alcohol killing the brain from my basic understanding.

She has 3 drugs: alcohol, cigarettes, pot. I suggested she quit 2 of these for a while… my suggestion was alcohol and cigarettes.

Since we don’t know how memory works, or rather understand how it works, It’s hard to say it memory is affected by cannabis.

I for one found over time that i would forget alot of the things i would do or experience while on cannabis, once i became sober. But once i would smoke up again, i would remeber everything that happened on most smoking sessions. Really interesting, isn’t it?

This led me to believe that when we experience a different consciousness of the mind, the experiences that happen during each phase of consciousness can be compartmentalised by the brain into defferent memory channels. Those channels can them be acessed only when in that particular state of consciousness again. There seems to be some overlap but generally this is how it seems to work for me.

I’ve also has times when i would recall memories from the past via a photographic memory. I would suddenly see a particular image just the way i saw it at the time throught my own eyes, 15 years earlier. I would se the image, smell the smell, hear the words spoken and even feel the emotion of that moment. It’s literally re-living the moment. Moments that i did not even remeber anymore. When sober the next day, i still remeber everything. So in a way, if you use cannabis wisely to enhance i think it can do wonders for memory recall. If you abuse it, you’ll be spending so much time in a different world, that when you fianlly return to normal after a long absence, i could see how your mind would have trouble re- adjusting to that particular state. All of it’s systems would be affected.

Alcohol however is a different story. It really stupifies the mind, imo.
