I don’t know the full situation, so I can’t really judge. It’s possible bale overreacted. It’s also possible the DP was randomly walking through the scene and no one else was getting on his case about it.
I want to see more films with Bale, because I believe he’s a good actor and does good work.
Although, I must admit, about halfway through his diatribe he threatens to attack someone. I kinda wish he got his poncy ass handed to him.

I must say I literally just Lol’d a little bit here in my Ops MGT class! So Bale blew up, big deal (there isn’t one person who isn’t guilty of at least wanting to blow up on the job)

He’s portraying a soldier in an action movie so he has to carry a certain intensity with him during his scenes. If something, or in this case someone, is causing him a distraction then they’re going to be at the receiving end of that intensity. You can’t just turn that on and off like a lightswitch. It’s simliar to a prize fighter who keeps attacking after the ref tries to stop the action.
On top of that, there is an ENORMOUS amount of pressure that goes into making these movies. It isn’t all glitz and glamour- that stuff is a smokescreen by the marketing people. Making a movie is hard, humbling work where everyone needs to be at the top of their game. A screw up that messes up a take wastes time and money, and no movie no matter how big can waste either.
But what do I know, I’m only a producer on an indie movie trying to make it in the biz.
If it was a grip or a pa then maybe his actions could be condoned, but this was the DP. There are two people that can stop a scene on a film set, the director and the DP. Now why the DP was walking around is a mystery but he has more freedom on the set than Bale does.
Some of the folks here are star-struck celebrity worshippers. They’d probably thank Mr. Bale for the frothing spittle striking them in the face while he made threats to tear up their property.

So if I keep fucking with you while you’re at work you’re going to have infinite patience with me? Geez what a saint.

I don’t know that two times would constitute continuous ‘fucking with me’, but I sure wouldn’t talk to anyone like that for something so trivial, nor would I take it on the chin.

Yeah, I noticed that too. “I’m gonna kick your fuckin’ ass!” Whatever Christian, talk is cheap.
I think he’s a prick for acting that way, but I don’t think it’s that big a deal. After all, he did make it sound like the guy had done whatever it was he did in the past, and I can understand getting pissed about someone busting up my concentration. Plus, if it was a scene in which he was supposed to be angry, he may have already been in that mindset.
I think it’s common for a lot of actors to be assholes once in while; you have to have a big ego and a lot of confidence to really get into a role and give it everything you have. I’ll definitely still see the movie, just like I still watch Tom cruise and Mel Gibson movies. You can find clips of just about all actors blowing up.
For what it’s worth, the guy getting bitched out wouldn’t have a job without guys like Bale who sell movies. This guy probably drops his name at bars when he’s telling chicks what he does for a living, and I’m sure there are plenty of other perks of working on movies.

… he would be considered a psycho with serious pent-up aggression and impulse control problems…?
LOL at this… I never had a job where two months went by without someone blowing up over some shit. And from the sound of it, that was the second time that sound guy had interrupted a scene.
You don’t think so? Damn, where do you work where people blow up like that? [/quote]
Well, I’ve spent a few years on deep sea trawlers. Put 15-30 guys on a boat together, send them somewhere where it’s -20 degrees centigrade–> watch sparks fly, lol.
Seriously though, I’ve seen people blow up over seemingly petty things, but there is usually more to it that is not obvious to an observer. Not saying I think it’s OK, just that “psycho” is a huge overstatement.

Bullshit - if you were under the same scrutiny an A list actor like Bale is under, I guarantee some examples of you flipping out and acting like an asshole would surface too.

So, what you’re telling me is that you never, ever have a bad day? Never a single moment in your life where you got pissed and lost your temper? That’s never, ever happened?
My point is that we all flip out occasionally. If you do it every day, all the time, then you’re just an asshole. But, since everyone at some point has a moment like that, and IF that person was under the same scrutiny as Bale - meaning that you’re on film or tape for at least 50% of your life - something like that would undoubtedly turn up. And since it’s taken out of context, it’s easy to label the guy a psycho for losing his temper - something that EVERYONE does at one time or another…

I don’t know, man, I guess everyone screws up at times, but this was totally over the top, IMO.

Absolutely I have; this is undeniable. I don’t know, however, that I’ve ever had a moment that bad that I have degraded someone like that for any kind of transgression, much less a minor one such as screwing up my work, which I can redo. I agree that everyone screws up royally, but that was just ridiculous.
I know what you are saying; I also don’t like celebs being held to a higher standard that normal people, but the opposite is also true: they need to be accountable for their actions, and not act like silly spoiled kids.

None of us know the details of that. None of us know if he had a bad day, what the scene was like, or exactly how the DP walked onto the set or for what specific reason.
I would be pissed off too if the DP would walk across the set like a clueless dipshit during an intense scene. I would imagine that it WOULD be distracting. DP’s are supposed to screw around with the lighting BEFORE or AFTER the scene, not DURING it.
