Tony,
Excellent point!
Tony,
Excellent point!
Cyco, would you care to say why my book recommendation is a bad one?
Frankly, everyone knows little pissants like you that study a few politically correct nutrition books at subpar universitites and nobody cares.
-Zulu
Cyco, Morg is not NeilG…and we should listen to you? Someone who believes in the food pyramid? Right.
Zulu, its not a bad book, but he goes on and on about absolutely pointless items.
Also, his concept of polyunsatuates being bad for heart disease is funny, considering teh vast quantities of research in their favour, including their anti-thrombogenic and anti-inflammatory actions.
Frankly, everyone knows little pissants like you that study a few politically correct nutrition books at subpar universitites and nobody cares.
I have about 3 nutrition books in my collection, atkins, colgan and one text book. I read journal articles to get my information, because that way it isnt predigested by others. Maybe you should try it sometime.
Someone who believes in the food pyramid? Right
where did I say I believed in the food pyramid. If you actually looked at the other post, I was saying that it is suitable for general population recommendations. NeilG is the one who thinks that the food pyramid includes donuts and poptarts.
Personally the Polynesian based food pyramids are more to my liking, as they are clearer than the example the USDA provides, hell, the rest of the world provide a clearer food pyramid than the USDA.
where did I say I believed in the food pyramid
this should read, where did I say I believed in the food pyramid for individuals. The food pyramid and the Nutritional guidelines that are associated with it, are population recommendations. Neil still hasnt stated whether he understands what this means or not.
From Cassandra, the authority on fat …
In the dietary fat picture, when SFAs consistitue the majority of the fat intake, they have the biggest impact on cholesterol levels in the body. However, I have refuted that not ALL sat fats are created equal. The SFA 18:0 appears to be neutral and 16:0 is not as bad as it once was thought to be. The worst SFAs are 12:0 and 14:0. Another thing is that if there is 8% PUFA in the diet, it will protect against the cholesterolemic effects of any saturated fats.
There you go.
I had three scrambled eggs this morning. It was good.
To be completly honest, cassandras research adds to the research base, it doesnt null invoid any preceeding research.
It should also be noted that adding fish oil to diets of those with hypercholesteraemia will increase their cholesterol (but will reduce their risk of thrombogenesis.
I’m not sure you realize this, Cyco, but the population is compromised of individuals. How can you support the atrocious food pyramid under the guise that it is suitable for a population but not for individuals?
Zulu, the guidelines is POPULATION based, if you do not understand this then do some reading.
Basically it means it is based around the goals to achieve the nutrition based at a population level, there will be a natural variation around it. The government does not, and will not prescribe nutritional guidelines to individuals (even additional guidelines to specific groups like AHA, diabets amerca etc are all population based recommendations).
Hence the comment on the USDA food pyramid "What is the Food Guide Pyramid?
The Pyramid is an outline of what to eat each day. It’s not a rigid prescription, but a general guide that lets you choose a healthful diet that’s right for you.
The Pyramid calls for eating a variety of foods to get the nutrients you need and at the same time the right amount of calories to maintain or improve your weight.
The Pyramid also focuses on fat because most Americans diets are too high in fat, especially saturated fat." Notice they are talking about americans IN GENERAL, not individuals. The other thread was a conversation saying that the government should provide atkins guidelines for the population, which will NOT work for a population (individuals within this population maybe, but not everyone).
