I wish I could get that kind of catharsis from lifting.

Seriously… I hear about people using weights to “escape” or take out the stress and angst in their life, or trying to prove something to others or themselves. Shit man, I’m just trying to get stronger.
EliteFTS had an article a while back called 50 Shades of Iron that had some stuff sent in by readers I could NOT relate to. Maybe that’s why I suck :-/[/quote]
I lift to escape
I guess for some people they go hang out with friends on a Friday night, watch a movie, go bar hopping, or go for a bike ride. The only thing that cleanses my brain from the bullshit of everyday life is lifting weights. I don’t lift with a partner for this reason. It is MY time. It becomes sort of like a religious experience for me, independently challenging myself-- maybe like meditation.
I wouldn’t lift otherwise, because in it’s fundamentals-- it makes no sense to me. Walking around in a cage like a monkey picking up metal and putting it back exactly where you found it.

Hopefully not hijacking here, but its an interesting discussion I hope.
You dont see ANY benefit to getting physically stronger for its own sake? I don’t see it as “picking up metal and putting it back exactly where you found it” at all. I see it as “school” where when you leave or graduate hopefully you are a better and more enriched person than when you went in.
With the end goal hopefully being that I become as physically strong as I possibly can (The same way school and education make you “mentally strong”)
It is my goal to experience the heights of both my mental and physical capabilities, anything less would be a life wasted.
@evolv I feel the same way. I don’t understand how people can bring their wife/gf to the gym with them and just talk the whole time. Lifting is my time like you said
I should weigh 200 tomorrow…but I guess that’s what I said last week lol I’m not sure if my strength has dropped because of a new program or (I’m sure it’s this) everytime I hit something somewhat heavy it’s pretty fatigued with volume. I’ll reassess how things are looking/going at 195 and potentially 190. 20 lbs down and I haven’t even done any conditioning plus I had a bowl of captain crunch tonight.
Short term goals: Get to 10% BF and stay there for a couple months
Long term: Eat 200-300 cals above maintenance and see where it takes me
Does anyone have any opinions or experiences with ECA? I kinda wanna speed things up a bit but stim dick scures me.

x2 on this. something just clicks when I touch the bar, and I get really zen with it.

Yeah, I don’t know if any of you guys have ever done the Smolov program-- but that is what I love about it. Every session is like surviving being chased by Bengal tigers in a jungle. Afterwards, I always feel pretty centered and nonchalant about my troubles.

Like when you start walking or driving to the gym start visualizing what youre gonna do that day. Then start visualing something you think is cool as fuck or something that pisses you off or gets adrenaline going. For me personally I like to either think of losing my mother as a kid or that Im like a viking in the old times. (srs)
Then I start like correlating my targets for that workout with certain things in my head. Like george says, if you get 8 you can get that person back. Or getting 8 is like slaying everyone in your path and youre on a brutal fucking warpath to ultimate victory.
Then when you get to the gym put on more music that pumps you up like I like soundtracks or viking metal. Listen to ithe whole time and put yourself in that state where you seriously think the things you said before the workout visualizing are completely true, theres no way they COULDNT be true. Then fucking let the adrenaline build and build and at your topset or last set of volume whatever just fucking unleash all of that pent up rage anger and emotion onto the bar
if you can do this you will experience that “religious” experience

Good stuff. I usually will squat in a hoody for this reason. It helps me live just inside my little skull sized kingdom of agony and challenge, away from the rest of the gym (world). Again, it is my release, which sounds like a lot of you guys too.
Week 6 Day 1
Bench…2 min, I’ll have to check but I think last week I rested 2:30
barx10
95x8
135x5
155x4
175x3
195x2
215x1
225x1
3x5 with 215
3x5 with 190…on the second set I moved my grip out from pinkies on the rings to ring finger on the rings and it felt 10x better
150x15 with wraps…I did the visualization stuff as stated above and I got too pumped up lol
All reps except the 150 were paused
Incline…2 min
115x23
115x12
115x10
Dips…2 min
10, 9, 8, 7, 6
Laterals…2 min
3x20 with 17.5’s
Pull aparts
4x25
Anyone ever hear how Arnold used to drink 8 beers before he lifted to get a good pump? That shit doesn’t work lol
Lol watch the fire half of the video, one the funnier things I’ve seen in a while. On a serious note Paul Carter has a really good article on a topic that is never talked about that goes along with this video on his blog Lift Run Bang.
Week 6 Day 2
Squats
3x10 with the bar
135x5
155x4
175x3
205x2
225x1
235x1 paused
5x5 with 190 in 9:50 everything felt really solid today
Deads
135x5
225x3
5x3 with 275…on the third set I tried pulling sumo cause I’m a dumbass and the bar didn’t break the floor
315x1
345x1 belted…fast
Deficit deads off a 2" deficit
3x5 with 225
Lateral
3x20 with 15’s
-SS-
You know those fat 45’s that are really bouncy, hold those for 15 secs each hand
Sprint the straights and walk the curves for 4 laps
Right side of my lower back is kind of feeling a little odd, same place as I messed it up last time.
