This was hilarious. My buddy showed me this and it was great.

Scatman John makes the video.

3.) A WoW account has NO VALUE; all the analogies made here are ridiculous! What one person works for over 1000’s of hours in any game can be recreated in a matter of seconds simply by altering some fucking database tables. This makes it a completely unproductive use of time, unlike other hobbies mentioned here in the thread.
People in this thread can keep saying this, it doesn’t make it any more true. There was an account that sold for $3500 during the 1st expansion. Accounts going for 1200-1500 wasn’t even close to a rarity(any decently geared raid account sold during AQ40,Naxx1.0,almost all of TBC). As I stated before I’m not sure about current pricing, but in vanilla and TBC a max level(60, 70) account would sell for 100-200 dollars naked depending on certain variables(race/class, server, battlegroup).

I don’t really care to touch this debate, but this statement is true. A whole economy has developed around WOW, with jobs ranging from gold miners to professional levelers to guild leaders and teachers. People pay for their services, thus stating that a WOW account or hours spent playing the game have no value is simply false.

Still no comparison. Making art is a worthwhile endeavor. There’s an intrinsic value to art in its final form, as well as the satisfaction of the creative process.
What’s the value (other than entertainment) with playing a virtual game? What does he come away with, or bring to the relationship?

Oh I forgot… bragging rights with his WoW buddies.

Hey, I’m all for unwinding while participating in entertaining activities. I’ve played some virtual games myself, but not to the point where they’ve jeopardized my relationships with loved ones, or the time I could be doing something worthwhile.
Based on the gf’s narration, she’s obviously frustrated with him, and most likely has addressed it at least once with him… for her to react so extreme as she did. And based on his immature reaction, he obviously has a problem.
Are you stupid? You’re whole argument is based on YOUR opinion of WoW. I don’t play WoW, but its easy to see how much of a hypocrite you are. Watch what I do here:

 1. You ask:

“What’s the value (other than entertainment) with playing a virtual game? What does he come away with, or bring to the relationship?”

What is the value of RECREATIONAL art other than entertainment? What the FUCK does (what you consider) recreational art bring to a relationship, other than entertainment? If you are not making a living off of art, you are not bringing ANYTHING to the relationship other than entertainment.

But wait, wait, painting can be an activity that both couples partake in, bonding with each other and strengthening the relationship!

So can WoW…they can play together.

But, but - art is something that the man can do to impress the women!

So can WoW…the woman can admire his characters.

 1. Watch me use your own quote and insert Wow instead, making a perfectly valid statement.

“Playing WoW is a worthwhile endeavor. There’s an intrinsic value to WoW in its final form, as well as the satisfaction of the creative process.”

Wouldn’t a WoW player be satisfied with his character “in its final form”, after training it for many months? Wouldn’t a WoW player be satisfied with training his character day by day, leveling up, and creating a more powerful character (what you call “creative process”)?

Don’t you see? WoW is an art form, too. Art is defined as “the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way to affect the senses or emotions.” WoW players invest countless amounts of time into CREATING their characters. Into “sculpting” their characters, if you will. You see, if I use terms you’re familiar with, you begin to understand how futile your stance is.

As an aside, its pretty sad that you call the guy in the video a “little fuck”. You know absolutely nothing about the situation, in fact you are completely IGNORANT to his side of the story. As others have said, for all we know he plays 2 hours a day and his girlfriend is a huge attention craving whore who gets a sadistic pleasure out going on power trips (ie screwing up his WoW accounts). I mean honestly dude, its painfully obvious how biased you were from the beginning.

I see people like you all the freaking time, trying to be fucking “white knights”. Oooh oooh he needs to pay her more attention oooh oooh she should dump his ass too! etc etc. Please shut the fuck up you pussy whipped bitch.

The same thing could be done to your bank account, and I’d bet you think that has some sort of value.

I used to play this game before all the crazy expansions came out and had really good gear for a lvl 60. I traded my account to a buddy for a bong (a nice one, Lux Mini glass on glass, diffused downstem, 4 tree perc, water guard and ice catcher and a case worth probably $300) thinking it was a great deal. He played it for a while, then sold the account for $700.

I also think this video is fake. She knew his password, she knew how to find his gear in the game and delete it, she’s definitely played before. He also made sure to make a scene of breaking the thing right in front of the camera, which I think anyone would have noticed anyway.

Ha ha ha nice. Notice how you didn’t respond to any of my comments (because you have no response), and instead just called me names. Ad hominem argument, very witty (I know your not that bright so I’ll let you know that I’m being sarcastic).

hey queer, maybe you should go paint something, because every time you try to debate you end up spewing logical fallacies.

PS i’m the fatty? lol!

nice tits, ivan the terrible

Anyone find it ironic that a guy named “Iron Dwarf” hates world of warcraft…? no?

p.s oh yeah, and everything he says is wrong… sounds like someone got their ass handed to them by their siblings at mario, every time when they were a kid…

EDIT: P.s. oh yeah, i get pussy at Blizzcon every year, so your future arguements are nullified… kay? gg no re k thx, scrub

Mage, Level 80 Relentless Gladiator… sup?

Great point.

Same could be said about the stock market, and the glitch crash a couple weeks ago only underscores such an argument.

I think the overall discussion in this thread is actually very interesting, from the addiction portion to the economic portion. It cannot be denied though that WOW can be addictive, and does carry its own economy which can and has produced financial reward for players and entrepreneurs around the world.

Guys, I really don’t know much about gaming. I used to have an N64 and played Goldeneye a lot.

I just have to stick up for Iron Dwarf to a degree in the sense that I can understand how he’d be baffled that some people ‘believe’ in this game so much and that some responses here are going too far.

But what do I know? I think DJs that mix Cds together are a joke but I’ve brought that up among friends before and they defend DJs as good at doing their job and in their own way just as essential as doctors. Yes, someone I know said that once.

Iron Dwarf is wrong, but the personal attacks against him aren’t needed. This doesn’t need to get personal. Its a simple matter:

Girlfriend is a bitch
Boyfriend reacted poorly
The kid is a douchebag for life
And the videos were probably fake

Also, Iron Dwarf hates video game.

I think it’s less the game and more his self-righteous/cavalier attitude. I don’t think anybody is suggesting that playing video games is going to pay the bills, but there’s probably not a one among us who is ever going to profit from weight training either. He may not enjoy video games, but I don’t give two shits about art. If he makes a living selling his scribbles, more power to him, but he of all people should realize how subjective value works. A man is entitled to his hobbies, whatever they may be.

Uhhh… someone has a little bias?, did Iron Dwarf not call him a fat nerd off the bat? simply returning the comment with proof doesn’t seem reason enough to make him a “LOSER”…
