Chi-Towns-Finest: Contest Prep 2010!

Results from OBC Midwest States 2010: I won the Men’s Novice AND the Men’s Open! Unfortunately the Men’s tall was also a cross-over and beat me in both overall categories, however it was still an honor to be considered for my pro-card at my first open show.

Here are some shots from the Men’s Open Overall:

good job man! good job on the tan too

Much Better! Better color, poses better (some could still use some tweeks, but overall noticeable improvement), even slightly crisper conditioning.

The OCB does classes by height? I haven’t done any of their shows before, so that’s interesting to consider. Is it just Short/Tall, or is there a Medium class?

Thanks, I decided to leave it to the professionals at the venue and they did a fantastic job. It was expensive but they took good care of us competitors – two coats friday, one coat saturday and touch up before the evening show. I’m buying their spray tan for my next event, I’d recommend it to anyone competing: liquidsunrayz.com

Height classes was a new concept to me also – yes I was in the medium, the photos were against the short/tall class winners. Layne was the guest poser, and he approached me personally after my prejuding and gave me some words of encouragement. It was very cool to speak with me him, even just for a couple minutes.

Thanks boss!

Finally a much better tan. I think your rear double bi and front double bi are your money shots. In the first contest you looked so much bigger than the others.

Great job man. You’re 22? That’s about when I was looking to do my first show. I’ve got over 2 more years to go.

Perhaps that’s attributed to the depletion week I did between the shows. I depleted at 2000 the first show and 1750 the second, mostly because of the ~5k calories I ate after the first one – I knew my body wanted to rebound.

Yea that must be difficult to time doing two shows right after another. Dunno how stu did it haha. Careful planning I guess.

I’m just THAT… DAMN… GOOD… -lol

Nah, it’s all in how you handle the rebound, how much time you’ve got, and hot badly you binge right after the show. Managing sodium, sugar, and your overall meal cadence can have a huge impact on hitting multiple shows. I was looking over shows for Spr 2011 over the weekend, and it got me thinking that if two shows were within two weeks of each other I’m sure I couldn’t do the usual carb/water method I make use of, and I’m sure it would affect the ultimate conditioning on stage. You also definitely have to keep in mind your individual physiology, and especially your age (I’m gonna be 38 this Spring, almost double Chi-Town’s age… I’m sure his body is much more resilient than mine!) A guy I know who I first met at a contest back in 2009 (he was 24 at the time!) must have competed at least 4-6 times each year since,… and gotten better each time! I know my body couldn’t take that kind of stress, at least not at this stage.

NICE WORK!!! Im trying to get myself ready as well (maybe another couple years???). Like you I need to bring up my hams and quads as well.

If you really want to compete, create a set time (fall 2012) – that way you can constantly work towards it. It’s a lot easier to hold yourself accountable when you have DECIDED to compete!

Already done lol. Right now I am 184 12-13%bf. My sights are set on 185 around 6% bf before I do my first contest. From there just try to get as lean as possible and lose necessary water weight to make weight. Obviously this may not happen but at least I have a goal in mind. My short term goal is 175 8% bf and from there bulk back up to 185 and then back to 175 so on and so forth to get a recomp effect. If I do it this way I believe it will be easier to get lean as my bodyfat % will slowly drop over time rather than all at once. So overall I need to gain roughly 13 pounds of muscle and lose 12 pounds of fat to get to 185 6%bf. I think I can do that in 2 years. Also, at 6 %bf it won’t take long to get to around 4% for the competition. Thats the plan for now.

Good luck with the recomps! I’ll follow your progress, do you have a log here?

No but I can PM you when I hit my mini goals if you want to call them that.

Sounds good!

Just wanted to let anyone who is interested know I began a training log here on T-Nation. I’m doing beast building phase 1!
