Chest Caving In

alright when i do dips or flys and maybe a few other exercises the middle of my chest feels like it’s caving in and hurts. is this normal and just means i’m working my pecs or does it mean stop doing what your doing.

I used to experience this when I first started doing dips, it went away after maybe 2 weeks of regulary doing dips. I’ve never experienced it with flys though. I don’t know what it is.

Does it feel like it’s caving in or is there just a whole lot of stress on the connection at the breast bone?

When I was in my teens, I used to have occasional bouts of the cartilage between my ribs and my sternum being partially separated or inflamed.

This could be brought on by a variety of things, such as stretching during a big yawn or even just picking something up wrong. My cousin, who is now in his teens, has the same problem.

Dips used to aggravate this problem, so I didn’t do them for years. Now I’m 20 and I do dips regularly with no problems.

I don’t know if that’s what you’re describing.

I get the exact same thing mate. Mine went away after about a week but it was less painful when I had benched and warmed up heaps before my dips.

thanks, im going to try doing them every workout for a few weeks and see how it goes.

After you do them normally in your workouts for a few weeks it will go away as you gain strength.
