What does everyone think of this scandal?
I am not surprised at all. They always seem to call the right play at the right time. Now we know why.
I think they should suspend Belichek for half the season.
I wonder how well Brady will play when he doesn’t know the defensive calls.
To echo the sentiments of some of ESPN’s talking heads:
I think Belichick should be treated as a player would for cheating (steroids), 4 games out.
I think that the Patriots are gonna come at the Chargers with everything they got on Sunday night.
They should have to give all their rings back.
To further echo a statement made by an ESPN talking head:
‘The fans of every other NFL team have been looking for a reason to hate the Patriots for over 4 years. Now they have a legitimate reason.’

Down with the Patriots and the hoody. I loved the choke last year against the colts. Suspend him, take some draft picks away, and yes this scandel will follow them to a loss in the playoffs. Its too bad they play in one of the easiest divisions in the NFL.

Greenberg from mike and mike said its like Mcguire juicing, I am a Patriots fan and just like any other good team there are tons of people who hate that they are the best. They are still the best team in football. Lets see how they play next week vs. one of the best teams in the league the chargers.

You don’t have a clue do you? They cannot intercept all signals but if they pick up a few a game they greatly increase their chance for success.
They are cheaters. It helped them win. They wouldn’t risk doing it if it didn’t make a significant difference.
Go stick your head back in the sand and pretend it doesn’t have an effect on the game if that helps you feel better.

Athletes use anabolics to get a physical edge. Many posters in this site thinks that it’s okay. Well, the Pats stole signals to get a mental edge. And no one besides Shadow has chimed into say that it’s okay too? Give me a break. The posters here are just Colts/Chargers fanboys desperate for good news.
I predict Belichick will be fined in the very least, suspended for several games being most likely, and AT WORST the Pats will have to forfeit their win against the Jets. We New Englanders are keeping our rings, sorry! 
Calm down shadowzz. Suppose they got one play call right the whole game, it swings the whole game around. Momentum is a big factor in football in my opinion.
Also, most games are close, those 3 or 7 extra points is a huge advantage. Everyone cheats, they just got caught. I hope he does get slammed, personally I dont like him. He is an arrogant a-hole.
What I am more interested is to hear about the frequency abnormalities? Anyone know about that. Supposedly there where weird things going with the headsets.

Why were they cheating? Like you said 3 or 7 points can swing a game. 1 or 2 more wins can be the difference between playing in the wild card round vs home field advantage in the playoffs.
This seems to be a huge deal. I am sure other teams try to steal signs but I wonder if they are as blatant as NE.

The new commish’s regime has been very serious about making examples out of problem players so far, and I’m sure we’re all very interested in the punishments that will be handed out here. It’s not like NE (in particular) hasn’t been warned about this.
And I don’t think ‘getting caught cheating’ will give the Pats any extra fire at all. Not that it will matter much on Sunday night anyway: NE can’t win this game without Seymour and Samuel and Harrison and this is SD’s regular season superbowl.
I think that anyone who is claiming that the signal-stealing didn’t make a difference for the Patriots might need to think how they’d be looking at this if they weren’t a Patriots fan.
Honestly, if my team (Steelers) got caught doing something like that, I’d be ashamed. Oh, and they have more Super Bowl rings than the Pats too, without cheating.
Also, has anyone on here who is claiming that knowing a defensive signal doesn’t make a big difference ever played football past the pee-wee level?
Knowing so much as an interior line stunt can make the difference between negative yardage and a consistent 10-yard gain, LET ALONE knowing the entire defensive play call, including linebacker blitz/drops, as well as secondary coverage schemes.

It is called a sack, usually results in the loss of several yards and is a major game changing play. A cheating fuck Shawn Merriman had 17 of them one year and he was caught juicing.
The penalty? Just being suspended some games, no major team penalties even though it is established as being very illegal not only in the NFL but period. Is it definite that a defensive force like Merriman sticking a needle in his ass racking up tackles, causing fumbles and making sacks cant have the same effect if not greater than a team taping the signals of another team? Wake the fuck up.

Anyway, I’m not a Pats or Chargers fan, I’m hoping Mr. Brees wakes up his offense.
Shawn should of been suspended longer, but one person juicing compared to knowing a defenses next play is a big difference.
If you know Shawn is going to drop to coverage, you can run it. Or if you know hes blitzing you can throw. Im no coach at all, maybe you players can chime in and explain more and how much it really, really helps.
I am curious as to see what will happen.
At the college I went to(D2 Northern St.) we ran a no-huddle O and the plays were hand-signs by the coaches, and we had 3 people giving hand signs and depending on the quarter we watched a different person for the real play, this cheating thing happens constantly, we also studied defensive audibles with game tape and noted the change in the coverage/blitz package.
I doubt there is a team in the U.S. from high school up that doesn’t do some form of what is being called cheating. If the Pats had been filming the other sidelines calls from the booth they were supposed to be in and not on the sideline, nothing would or could be said.
After looking at some articles and reading the NFL’s rulebook, it seems like an everybody does it, you just got caught situation, apparently also happened last year against the Packers at Lambeau, same employee doing the recording.
Its bullshit. The taping of the signals is not “knowing the defense”. But people saying “oh that is why they are so good, they always seemed like they were a step ahead of us, oh yea, come to think of it, they knew what I was going to do!!!” Wow!!! Fuuuuuck youuu!
Honestly, I think they should be punished pretty hard, because that is a rule, and the violated it AND got caught repeatedly. But I dont think all this shit about this is one big reason why they are so good is true.
