Cheatin' The Reaper One Day At A Time

went to Iowa’s homecoming win over Indiana. 50 degree day, got a nice sunburn. sun zapped any energy last night. went to friends house and had weenie roast by fire. ate way too much.

Always amazed this works for people. I tune everything out when I am on the platform (including my coach). Otherwise, I’d never get up there in front of everyone.

Got some bad news today.

Right shoulder has impingement. Same arm I blew the rotator out on 6 years ago. Right arm is weak and feels dead. It’s causing probs in all the lifts. I have a real good idea when it happened. I won’t be doing heavy OH work or incline work any time soon. Getting it worked on next week. Teammate is going to do acupuncture and gua sha on my shoulder, lat, upper back, and arm. She’s penciling me in for 1-2 hours. I’m not too optimistic on the happy ending, either.

Looks like will shut it down. Only out the $100 entry fee. We have chosen to err on the side of caution. Get healthy and make a run at our RPS meet in Feb/Mar. I know I have at least one major injury left in me, just don’t know if I have another long rehab left in me.

Caution is great thinking here. Hope your therapy goes well.

sorry to hear bout your shoulder

had accupuncture & electronic stimulation on right lat, shoulder and trap. shoulder range of motion greatly improved. left shoulder next week. started shoulder rehab protocol. expecting 4ish weeks before benching. the only things I got OK to do were safety bar squats, ghr, rev hypers, rows and light band pressdown. will work in light deads to see if nerve reacts when locking out. oh and incline are out. any horizontal or vertical pressing is a no go. pullups & lat pulldowns are out as well, for now.

How’re you feeling? Hope you’re improving.

Well, the meet I was supposed to lift in was last weekend. Kind of bittersweet. Teammates were hitting PRs and we won the team trophy while I wrapped knees and told people to eat and rest. While we were at the meet, Jamie Lewis was lifting at our gym. Was told that he came away very impressed because of the simplicity of our gym (2 monos, 2 comp benches, 2 deadlift platforms, 3 power racks, assorted specialty bars, chains and the like).

Tonite was my 1st day back since my shoulder impingement reared its ugly head. Figured I’d deadlift since this would put the ;east strain on my shoulder.

225x5
275x5
315x5
365x5
405x1
405x1

came away mildly pleased since I haven’t done jackshit in the last 4-5 weeks except overindulge in food with some rest sprinkled in.

squat on Saturday
bench stability and accessories on Sunday or Monday
dealift on Wednesday
bench on Thursday.

We are planning on hosting a meet @ 3/27-28. not sure if SPF or UPA sanctioned. You are all invited to lift or attend. I plan on lifting at this since I missed the last meet.

Enough rambling. Time for tater-tot casserole.

glad to hear your feeling more like yourself
good to see you training again
bet it felt great.

and your still a vital part of your training team- good work

405 is a damn good return on the DL. I’ll bet you do great at the meet your planning to do in a little over 4 months, should be plenty of time to get everything in order.

quick squat session on Saturday morning. felt kinda good to get under the bar. depth sucked but I kind of expected that. squatted 5x5 and drove to Iowa City to watch the Hawks lose to Wisconsin. I pray we beat Nebraska on black Friday. I’ve turned down serious cash for my tickets.

sunday (bench stability/accessories)
bamboo bar style (7’ pvc pipe with plates dangling from red minis.)
3x10

chest sup row
5x5

swiss bar cgbp
3x10

bb curl
4x10

band pressdown
150

1st bench session in a long time. worked up to 250x3. this was weight that my arm went numb with when my impingement was flaring up. felt pretty easy.

rows
5x5

band pressdown
150

will try to start training in earnest this Saturday.

Glad to see you back at it! I’ll be doing the whole knee wrapping thingy in a little over a week at our state meet (USAPL). I actually find it almost as stressful handling people as lifting myself!

Cool that you’re hosting a meet! Wish I were closer.

squat (second session since returning), after last week’s shitshow, did mobility this week. worked on depth today. focused on back tightness and keeping my knees out. felt pretty good. have some work to do though. may need to squat to a box short term.

worked up to some x some

stability bench

shoulder mobility + band pullaparts 3x20 & band face pulls 3x15

pvc pipe w/20# chain
3x10

chest sup row
3x10

band pressdown

3x10

band pressdown
100

off to iowa city tomorrow. meet at gym that’s friends of ours. will try to squat tomorrow night, maybe sunday.

bittersweet squat day

worked up to 5x3 but felt high and was confirmed @ 2" high. I love and hate my teammates.

squats of shame
3x10 to box w/135
the good news is that I was able to get to depth w/135. mobility is not my friend.

Stability bench (pvc w/25# db suspended from doubled red minis)
3x15

chest sup row
3x10

swiss bar cgbp
3x10

band pressdown
100

Glad to see your shoulder is feeling good and it reads like you have good friends. A proper depth squat is always a priority.
