UPA Nationals 4/22/12, 3rd Squat attempt 429#. Wife filming and giving the commentary. Training partner spotting me.

2nd bench attempt, 270#. Training partners helping.

3rd Deadlift attempt 418#. Back was tightening up pretty good at this point. Think had maybe 20-25#s more in me, maybe.

Was a fun meet. We helped the Saturday lifters and they helped us on Sunday,

Great lifts. You crushed that squat, nice and deep.

Really outstanding lifts. Definitely looked like you could have gone higher on some.

Weight back up to @ 230. Did absolutely nothing but eat and sleep (and a little mobility stuff) for the last week. Tried to squat light today and couldn’t get anywhere close to parallel. Said F-it, helped a teammate move in the afternoon. Will do some shoulder stuff tomorrow. We’re having a team get together tomorrow night. Made it a priority to include the wives. We participate in a very selfish sport. They are the glue that holds our shit together.

Contemplating next programming. May do original 5/3/1 or may run Sheiko #29. Whatever it is starts next Saturday. Planning next meet Nov '12 or April '13. Have goals to hit as a 50 year old. May work toward gradually getting down to 198.

Meal/outing with teammates and spouses. There was @ 20 people there. Handful couldn’t make it. Teammate is GM at PF Chang’s. Treated to appetizers, dinner and refreshments. Tipped generously. Stuffed like tick.

Damn near impossible to hit anything close to depth. Hips inflexible. May need to get massage. Tin Man needs oil. Will be doing mobility work, GPP and light weight stuff until I feel right. I know, I’m a puss.

Great meet vids. Really enjoyed them. Nice form on all your lifts. Funny you can’t hit depth now since that squat in the meet vid was pretty deep!

Last night. Bench w/85# fat bar we call “El Gordo”. This thing is a solid 8’ long.

Training partner started westside template. He did 8x3 close grip. We used the same weight to make it easy. I’m still kinda f’in around after the meet. Wanted to be there, so that’s a good sign.

Thanks Snap, I think the meet squat depth was a direct result of pre-meet massage and leg flush, adrenaline, and fear. Mobility is a nemesis of mine. It can take a long time to undo years of no activity/mobility. The flipside is that there’s a pretty large window where my body wasn’t as beat up. There’s still some tread on my tires.

Also thought the meet videos were great. As a 46 soon to be 47 yr old lifter I can appreciate your hard work and dedication. 50’s just a state of mind-if you don’t mind it does’nt matter!

Family & kids’ school stuff squelched training. It was worth it.

Tues night, oldest daughter received high honors cord for graduation. She will make two kids down, two to go. That leaves us with a HS freshman to be soph & 7th grader to be 8th.

Last night, youngest daughter had middle schoool band concert. The joys of 6th, 7th & 8th graders hitting the occasional sour note. Last concert of the year. She’s thinking she’s pretty cool to be going from 7th grader to BMOC 8th grader. Little does she know…

Plan on squatting tomorrow, I swear!
