Cheat Days & Fats?

I’ve been told quite a bit that its best to avoid good fats when your loading up on carbs. Never actually been given a reason for doing this so I havent really avoided eating them on my day off but is this something that you should do?

Thanks

I think when people low carb all week (or more) they carb up to restore their glycogen stores. Fats would have nothing to do with this, so I guess they avoid them. Also, adding fats to your carb up day, would probably send your calories way over board.

I thought that for the sake of good calorie fats would be a good thing but I do remember that the guy who said it to me said that fat slows carb uptake? I can’t seem to make any sense out of that?
I ain’t saying its not true but I just can’t seem tio get my heads around it

Fats would slow carb intake. Fats take a while to digest, while lots of carbs are digested more readily (besides fiber). If you combine them, your body will take a bit longer to pick a part and digest the carbs.

Are you talking about “Partitioning” meals?

supposedly, the combination of fat and carbs results in fat gain. I’m not sure why. I’d imagine it has to do with the insulin spike from the carbs and the subsequent storage of fat into your fat cells. Anyone have valid info?

If by ‘loading’ up on carbs, you are referring to a re-feed meal on a ‘get shredded’ plan like UD2, the theory is that you can still burn fat during a refeed by limiting fat intake during this time. Incoming carbs are being used first for glycogen production, while many of your basal metabolic needs are being met with free fatty acids freed up during your past low carb / calorie days. By taking in fat during this time, you lessen or remove the ‘burn fat while in calorie surplus’ effect. If you’re cutting, “good” fats should make up the vast majority of your fat intake, regardless of day of the week.

If you aren’t refeeding, it’s hard to give exact advice because we don’t know what your diet plan consists of. Just know that its never a good idea to completely avoid healthy fats over the course of an entire day, ever. You might still split your meals protein/carb and protein/fat, but even on off days or carb loads, at some point you are going to want some healthy fats and definitely some FFAs to access their anti-inflammatory properties on your day of rest.
