Cheaper Approach to HRV

Recently been reading up on Heart Rate Variability and I am greatly interested in getting started myself. Only one problem, the price of the app and its phone connecting accessories total over $100 and are too far out of my price range. I was wondering if you can just record the heart rate the old fashion way and calculate the averages yourself.

If this works how many BPM more than usual means you should take the day off, how many to take the day light, and how many means your good to go?
Cheers in advance to anyone that can help me out.

I don’t think the answers to your questions will be found in the powerlifting forum. However reread whatever it was that got you interested in this method. Usually the answers are in the text. Sorry I couldn’t help

Ha yeah I couldn’t decide what form it was more relevant to. I’ve read up on it more in other articles and found that it’s a lot more complex than averages of heart rates.
