The Charming Albino prevails again!
Thanks, Gents. Nope…no juice. Raw or nothing.
That leads to another question. Do they have meets for amateur and professional? If so, are they separate? At the same time? And how do you become classified as “professional?”
you become a PRO-fesshional
when your wear the golden mantard.
I have looked and there are like 9 million feds- none of which are in NYC - they will call it NYC- but the meet is 5 hours away.
I did notice there are several meets at the weekend place in PA.
on another side strick you asked what I did at the DNC- I worked for one of the networks convering it… Fox of all people
we got egged every day.

Golden mantard, huh? Is that anything like the golden fleece?
I am so sorry. I have no issues with Fox, but I can’t imagine a more hostile environment (barring violence, of course) than working for them at the DNC.

x2.
Powerlifting, and lifting in general is the only sport I know where people get excited when their competitors are attempting to lift a weight.
I think it’s just plain cool to see people explore and expand their personal limits.[/quote]
Ultrarunning is a lot like that. Even the front runners that are competing will run together, sometimes for miles shooting the breeze. When the time comes, the stronger one will just take on off.

yep golden mantard… you get it when you total elite.
or you can just buy one.
politics asside ( I rarely disscuss that stuff)
fos is a production disaster- little planing, and a basic misunderstanding of production- but yes it was a wee bit hostile.

the divisions of amature and pro are usually separated by drug tested-amature and non-drug tested-pro.
Dang! I wish I had your back angle to the floor. I could pull a bunch more! 'Course, then my hands hang down to my knees…
Nice pulling.
Yes - I’m psychic.
Squat/Deadlift Day
Let me start by saying that I hate squats. They make me feel weak, clumsy and…well, I hate them. I don’t mean “hate” as in, I don’t want to hang out with them…or, they aren’t my type. It’s not even a general dislike. I despise them…hold nothing but the greatest degree of contempt and disdain for them. If any exercise was spawned in hell, it was squats!
There, I feel better now.
It struck me that my body seems to be screaming for a deload. I am carrying significant tension and fatigue from one workout to the next. I may bump the next workout day and take a 4 day break. Did I mention that I hate squats?
The workout…
Squats (Oh, how I loathe them!)…I am still experiencing serious discomfort right on the front of my hips…at the joint.
barx10x2
135x8x2
185x5x2
205x3
Deadlifts…I narrowed my stance slightly on these, so that I could get my arms a bit closer in. It did help in my getting my arse lower. My shoulders are still not directly over the bar, but much closer.
225x5
275x5
300x3
350x2 – PR (+1 Rep)
Rack Pulls…again, I tried the narrower stance and to get my shoulder closer to vertical over the bar.
300x5
365x3
400x3 – (PR +2 Reps) — This one was for you, Skid.
Bent o’er Row
225x6x2
Supersets
Close Grip Pulldowns
160x12x2
Reverse Flyes, 2-arm BLRs, Reverse Lat Rows…whatever you want to call them
35x10
35x8
I came [I] into [HATE] the [SQUATS!] “gym” tired. I was pissy through the squats. The PRs on the dead work saved my mood, though.
As usual, please feel free to shred the vids.
Also…MEAT, I did try to lift my toes…and worked on pushing my knees out, when I remembered.

I assume that the psychic reference means you say them before I posted…again ![]()

I subscribed to your channel. Since I spend a lot of time watching my own videos and wiping lip prints off the computer screen, I try to spare some time to check new vids on my subscription page.
Numbers look great!

I spend a good bit of time going over mine as well. Tears are my problem, though…not lip prints. I will watch a vid and start with a smile. Once I remember all of the form advice I have been given, and watch them again, I end up in the corner…shaking, rocking back and forth, eyes blank…you know the drill.

Thanks. I remember now why being told to stop squatting, almost 2 1/2 decades ago didn’t bother me. I have always hated squats. Even though I know I have to do them and will continue to torture myself with them.
What suprises me, is that I LOVE deadlifts. I don’t have them down pat, but I see progress there (weight and form). They don’t feel awkward. And I know that they are great for my whole body. Even if the top of my knees (where the bar bumps as it starts over them on the way down) stays sore.

I went back and looked at some vids on youtube, and here. On that set of deads, my back did seem more angled than most of the vids I’ve seen. Of course, then I looked at one of Meat’s vids and his was more angled. So, am I safe in assuming that the back needs to be more angled than parallel (with the floor)? Am I angled enough?

Hey - I’m no expert. Deadlift positioning is always unique to the individual and their particular set of levers. My back is almost parallel to the floor at the start of a deadlift. If my arms were longer or my legs were shorter or my back was longer, I’d be able to be more upright and have better leverage for the start of the pull. But I don’t, so I can only wish for it and work the hell out of my hamstrings and lower back.
You’ve got it good. You have a broad chest, long arms, a long back and average-length legs. You can be an excellent all-around lifter with a particularly strong bench and deadlift. Once you get into a good pattern of squatting your DL is going to freaking take off.
That’s my opinion, anyway. You have a build similar to Bunny’s. Hell - you two look like you could be brothers. He’s doing great at PL. I think you can too.

skid- Thanks for the vote of confidence…and the input. You might want to go easy on comparisons with Bunny, though. Since he can DL both of us, and has weight to spare, we wouldn’t want to insult him.
I felt stronger. I don’t know if it was my closer stance/lower butt setup or that my body is finally trying to adjust to actually using weight to workout. I liked it, though. I just need to come up with a set routine for deads. Right now it is more of a shotgun approach.
“Once you get into a good pattern of squatting your DL is going to freaking take off.”
I feel the same way. The squats are about to force me to renew my Jack Daniels 1/5th of the week membership, though. I have been toying with the idea of doing shallower squats (to just above parallel), box squats, step-ups…anything to let me get a little strength in the area and avoid the pain in my hips, until I am really accustomed to them. It is getting frustrating…
I have yet to reconcile where I actually am with where I think I should be.
Bench Workout - Mother’s Day edition…
Well, as others on this forum, I didn’t adhere to what the routine called for…in this case, what my body was calling for… Rather than taking a deload, as I knew I needed to, I went ahead with the bench workout.
I paid the price for it and had my 1st FAIL on the 5x5. It was only by 1 rep, but, had I been “rested”, it was more than doable.
workout-
1/2 mile on the treadmill
dislocatesx10x2
Bench
barx20
95x15
135x15
185x5
225x5
265x5x4
265x4 - This was supposed to be my last set of 5. I didn’t even try the 5th rep. I was wiped out after these…
1st Set - - YouTube
Med. Pin Press
305x4
315x3
Too High Pin Press - way too high. Dropped it down after this set.
365x4
High Pin Press
345x5
400x3
Pushdowns
110x10
110x8
100x10x2
DB Seated OH Press
65sx12
65sx10
As you can tell from the video, the 400# pin presses really stressed my wrists. Enough so that I skipped the close grip bench.
I have to make myself deload this week. I can feel that my strength and endurance are suffering.
