Chasing Big Strick

I hate when those tweakers happen. Glad all seems well

Thanks j-willy. Seems to be the norm after 30-something.

Legs/Back -

Kind of a blah day. Three of the six folks in my house have had the bug…high fever, congestion, coughing, sore throat, aches. I had managed to avoid it until today. Sometime around noon it hit. For the first time since I started back, I actually did not want to lift. Just felt tired and out of sync. I opted to keep my momentum going, though. And the endorphins always make me feel better.

Also, other than a slight twinge on my 1st set of squats, back tweak has gone away. Also, made it through the squats with no knee issues at all.

Stretching and mobility work

Squats
bwx10x2
barx10
135x10
225x5
315x3
315x3
315x4 - PR +1 rep
315x2
275x5

Really feeling these. The 4th set at315, followed by the 275, finished it nicely.
These are still not below parallel. I am beginning to think that I am not built for squats.

Rack Pulls
315x5
385x5
435x6 - PR +1 rep
455x4 - PR +1 rep

supersets
Wide Grip Pulldowns
160x12x2
160x8

Face Pulls - Sitting from low pulley
100x10x2

This workout took a long time. The onset of illness really had my endurance drained…not that I have much to begin with.

Okay. I broke down and bought a Wii. I figured that my Autistic son would do well with it, since it detects your movements and responds accordingly. He does like it. Actually, everyone does.
Anyway…after the kids went to bed, the wife and I played a game of baseball and a couple of rounds of bowling. When we finished, both of us were complaining about our elbow and shoulder hurting.
Man we’re getting older!

In my looking for a bench, I ran across this…
http://www.homegymdeals.com/deltech-df1700-olympic-weight-bench.html - supposed to be good upto 750#

any comments on it? Or suggestions for a better one?

Something like this might be better

http://www.homegymdeals.com/yukon-fib-300-adjustable-weight-bench.html

Then you can bench in your power cage, safely.

Nice looking squats, !!
I bet your boy would like the wii.

I took creatine and some other supplements a few times and never felt a thing-
I did retain a bunch of water- and not in a "pumped"way.

I did find powered BCAA’s in like crystal light or gatorade while training
works well.

personally - I really think most like 95% of supplements are crap-
Im hoping the Biotest fairy will read this and hook a brother up with some swag.

DCA- I was looking at something like that as well. Most bench press benches won’t fit inside the rack. The problem I keep running into is how much they will hold. The one you linked says 400#. My bw takes up over 60% of that. The frustration mounts…

Thanks kmc…
They are definitely my weakest point.

I agree on most of the supps. I take BCAAs, creatine, protein powder and Surge. I can’t tell that anything else does anything. The creatine, for me, seems to actually work, though.
I am also, (something else to buy) going to try the Alpha Male. I need to get my grrrr… back.

Sorry - didn’t think it through.

Mine’s an old commercial gym bench off of craigslist. Sometimes you can get lucky and find a gym going out of business and get some of their stuff on the cheap, too.

Nice squats and pulls over here LS!

What do you think of Serge? My periworkout drink has been 2 scoops of powdered gatorade, some l-citrulline, leucine if I have it on hand, and a couple handfuls of BCAA’s. Protein/creatine PWO. Lately I’ve been adding a scoop of Waxy Maize to my PWO shake. I thought I’d try it a few weeks back and it’s just freakin’ nasty tasting to me, but I don’t want to waste it, so I’m suffering through it.

No biggie. I just need to make sure whatever I get will last, or my wife will see to it that I can never lift again…

I don’t know if I think it makes a difference or not. As my post WO shake did not provide the carbs necessary to aid in utilizing the protein, though, I can only assume that it is the better choice.

At first the taste seemed a bit odd (I use the chocolate), but now I actually like it. In fact, I think they must have added something not on the label, because I am addicted to it…lol.

Bench Day-

I actually forced myself to do speed bench, instead of going heavy. Decent workout, although I am still feeling a bit blah.

Dislocatesx10x2
YTWL

Speed Bench
barx25x2
95x20
135x15
185x3x6

Bench rep out
225x18 - PR +4 reps

Military Press
barx10
95x5
135x5
185x3
205x3 - gutted this one out

205x3

205x1 - ran out of gas

Reverse Flyes
40sx10x3

Pushdowns
elbows out
140x12x2
elbows in
100x12x2

Now, two days for my legs to recover. The are still really sore from Tuesday. It feels really good, except when I stand up, sit down or walk…lol.

sounds like a good reason to go lie down…

outstanding on the bench rep out and those militaries I only dream of…

Thats some big time pressing there LS.

Thanks soldog, JoeGood…

I Love military press. Unfortunately, for some reason, it really aggravates the tendinitis in my right elbow (on the inside, at the base of the bicep). It also is one of the few exercises that still remind me of the shoulder issues. I look forward to the day that I can do it without either of those. I don’t know that it would mean more weight, but , at least, more confidence.

soldog- my wife suggested the same thing…that I lie down…and stay home from work. She got a bit spoiled when I had a full week off at the end of June.

225 x 18 is awesome–NFL Combine style.

On the tendinitis. I had a cortisone (prednisone?) shot in my ass for an unrelated ailment on July 3 and my tendinitis disappeared the next day. It still hasn’t returned. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this isn’t just a temporary side effect. I’ll keep you posted.

Jack.

Thanks jjackkrash. I had intended to go for 20 reps. As you can see in the vid, though, on the 18th it looks like I ran headlong into an NFL lineman. We’ll get it next time.

That is great news on the tendinitis! Please do keep me posted. If it works for you, maybe it will for me. After dealing with this since sometime last year, it would be really nice to give it a going away party.

LS,

I got a Yukon commercial grade bench, similar to the one DCA suggested. Mine is very sturdily built - a very decent bench. I don’t know if it would stand up to The Meat, though.

NICE pressing LS!! You’ll have the last two (and a couple more) next time!!

Well, since I won’t be lifting what MM does for another decade, if ever, I don’t think that is an issue. Looking to get one that I can use for a few years, though, I would think that it would need to be rated to 700-750#. Unfortunately, most of the benches I see don’t list the rating.
You would think that would be considered pertinent information.
