Want something “new”? Go to Bally’s, hire a personal trainer, and learn the secret “Single-Leg Medicine Ball Sack-Wrangler on the Bosu Ball” lift.
Want something that works? Follow Coach Poliquin’s training paradigms.
If it weren’t for Coach Poliquin’s articles in Muscle Media and The Poliquin Principals, I wouldn’t have made the exceptional progress I’ve made today, nor would I have found the Testosterone website (thank God!) That’s why it royally pisses me off when a bunch of armchair computer lifters (see: Water Types)fire off such vitrolic attacks against him. Not that he gives a shit, though.
As mentioned before, nobody’s above criticism, but these attacks are unwarranted, unfounded, and flat-out stupid.
Keep it up, and we may not see anymore Poliquin articles, which would be a major diservice to every member of this site.
The mans reputation is impecable. Tons of experience and sucess. I trust his stuff so much that if he told me to go kick around a bowling ball barefoot as a leg workout I’d go do it without a question.
There are so many training programs on T-Nation that if some are redundant it does not matter. Poliquin is one of the world’s greatest stregnth coaches. If you are pissed go to Poliquin in person rant at him and see what happens.
I, for one, got a lot out of the recent GBC article. I don’t have 8 years’ worth of articles collected. I haven’t read a training magazine in years. Thus, I have never seen the updated version of GBC. Yes, I know lactic acid training is old news. No, I don’t believe it will release enough GH to affect fat loss. It is basically HIIT with weights, and seems like a good alternative to running on the hamster wheel day in and day out.
Coach Poliquin is a true innovator and a credit to his profession.
For those people who don’t realize it there are only so many ways to train… properly that is. And those constantly looking for something different should be careful as there are Coaches out there who will give you exactly what you want. It will suck, but you will eat it up because it’s different.
I’m thankful that here at T-Nation there are no Coaches like that!
Be thankful that Poliquin writes articles for T-Nation …Oh and one more thing (clears throat): YOU READ THEM FOR FREE!
God Damn! we’ve got all of the T-Nation staff writing in. I saw Atomic Dog, Thibaudeau , that Shugart guy…all we need now is Waterbury, Berardi, and TC. That might be a record.
How come you guys didn’t chime in like this when I posted my “best bbq ribs” topic? F*cking elitists!!!
if you want the new stuff, pay for one of his seminars and THEN ask him for the secret stash of programs and see what he says. I respect the guy a lot and look forward to the times when i’m able to go to his seminars. I think i need to learn shorthand to keep up with the amount of info he puts out. As for his website having secret stuff, i belong to it and they put out articles from him and his staff in regards to training, and nutrition and other related training topics, but again the most bang is his seminars. Save up the money and go see one. And if you’re out there Coach Thib, when will you do a seminar in the states?

RITJared and I are in the process of getting Thib to do a seminar at RIT in Rochester New York. We just gotta convince the school to pay for it…now where did we leave those sledgehammers.

True.
The criticism of Poliquin here is born out of ignorance. The nature of the new T-Mag may be to blame as they publish articles much more frequently(not to say I do not like this)and some real quality training articles are relegated to history.
For example, read Poliquin’s “Training with Maximal Weights” (T-Mag circa 1998 :-)) and then fast forward to 2005, call the same thing “Accumulation-Intensification Training Blocks” (not in anyway a shot at CT) and it would be heralded as the most revolutionary article.
im still waiting for a follow up article, or better yet, series explaining the five elements. Poliquin left that so wide open, had no basis for his ideas except anecdote. many very smart and very successful people in the performance community rip on CP for things like his Five Elements article, and many other things he does that have next to zero evidence of efficacy other than his, well, anecdotes.

Hey, thanks for reminding me about that article. I gave it a reread, and it is indeed a gem.
Zeb made a good point in that there are some finite principles of program development. Something totally bizarre and different from anything already published is highly unlikely. Some of Coach P’s articles on training have similar themes of course, but the small differences DO make a difference! The man CHANGED my training experiences and my body! some years ago. His stuff works!!
I am not sure I have seen so many “big guns” from T-Nation respond so quickly to one post. Seems to have hit a nerve.
It is good to see, however, what the aforementioned “guns” think of the situation as well as getting an insight to the “inner workings” of the site (how much do contributor’s get paid…I have some great stuff for the “over 35 lifter” :-); even the over 45 lifter ) .
