Yeah the torque is insane.
Although my hellcat has substantially more torque… haha

I might be. Shoot me a message with relevant info and pics if you have them.
It’ll have to wait until I get off work but I can do that. You have an email/contact method I can reach out to?
My new daily (and the first new car I’ve ever purchased). 2021 GLI (it’s a sedan GTI). Very quick and with lots of low end torque (0-60 in the 5s with stock tires). And I’m getting 38 MPG on the interstate. Plus it’s a pretty cheap car and I got it way under MSRP with it being the previous model year.
Got it - you can delete this now if you want. I’ll send you an email tonight if I get a chance between gym and class.
I’ve been scratching my head for awhile now. I been thinking diesel truck = V8. 12/8=1.5, and that doesn’t work very well haha.
FWIW, I remember an old timer saying they need to go back to straight 6 diesels for trucks, because they ran forever.
All the 6.7 Cummins are straight 6. Most of your big trucks are as well.
I did have a titan with the v8 Cummins Diesel and wish I had kept it. Was a great truck.
I remember reading about why so many cylinders are right around 500 cc awhile back. A lot of cars have 2.0 liter 4 cylinders, a lot of V6 are around the 3.0L mark. It had to do with them being more efficient at around that size.
I think it had to do with the motor having very close to square stroke to bore ratio. I think for efficiency it was found that stroke should be just a bit longer than bore is wide.
Does this not hold up with diesels? I could see that being a possibility.
This.
The first generation of Cummins work trucks (regular trucks with a cab and bed) had 2 valves per cylinder. The next iteration had 4 valves - which produced more power but at the cost of that sweet, sweet 12 valve music.
Used to have a 97 Mustang GT with some work done to it, but nothing major. Just enough to have fun in my early 20’s.
Big drag racing fan though. Grew up going to Englishtown NJ every year to see the national. I could have cried when they shut that track down a few years ago. Looking at going to bristol in a few weeks, or if not Charlotte 4 wide in september.
Best car channel on youtube
I’m glad to hear. I haven’t driven one yet. I wanted a new CT5 Blackwing, but a dealer offered under invoice for the TRX if I ordered. I might sell the TRX shortly after receiving for more than I paid to buy the Blackwing.
This video sounds like it was made by someone who got his Ford got shit on by a Cummins.
I bought my dad an AWD CT5-V Blackwing in a manual.
VERY fun car to drive.
Speaking of Cummins in a Ram, takes me back to around 2009. Once a year our car club meets in Perry, GA the first weekend of August (horribly hot in the middle of the state) for our car show indoors at the State Fairgrounds. We are a modern MOPAR group, primarily 3rd generation Hemi’s.
On the Friday before the show, many of us go to a drag strip about 30 minutes west of Perry, GA called the Silver Dollar Raceway, just outside of Reynolds, GA, the Sand Gnat capital of the world. It was in 2009 if my memory is correct. The DA was 3,600 ft and the gnats looked like a light fog had settled in for the evening. There is a full army there as the sun begins to set.
Anyway, there was an old, beat up, 2-door, long bed Ram Cummins with what I would guess was a 12" diameter stack right behind the cab, in the middle of the bed. I have no idea what any of the specifics of the transmission, but it was clearly 4-wheel drive. Guys around me were saying it ran on propane. And suppose it was some exotic fuel mixture that diesel drag racers concoct. At the starting line, he began to rev up the motor and black smoke poured out the “smoke stack.” When the tree first lit, he went WOT and noise increased and the black smoke thickened, Then… to my great surprise that monster launched like it was shot out of a cannon. At the end the ET was 10.5 seconds. And that was pushing the billboard-like wind resistance. Amongst all that exhaust the gnats made a quick departure.
I never looked at a truck the same again after seeing that ugly, dirty, (what looked like a POS) blast down the 1/4 mile.
Those 12-valves are insane. They are mechanically injected, so with a couple of hours and a few tools, you have 100 extra horse power by moving the air fuel control. Ultimate Zombie Apocolypse truck. No ECM. Plus, its so over-built, you can start adding more horse power with bigger injectors, aftermarket turbos, and that engine handles it just fine. The transmission however…
@Andrewgen_Receptors if you think you need to let her go for less than 10-15k (depending on condition), list her in Utah or Texas for top dollar.
They do like to eat transmissions lol
I’ll definitely consider it; thanks for the recommendation! Diesels in Cali aren’t exactly a hot ticket with gas prices nearing $6/gal ![]()
They haven’t been popular there in a long time.. It is silly how many people in Utah use their lifted, diesel trucks as commuter rigs. There as easily as many trucks as Cali has Priuses..
I used my ram as a daily for awhile.
Until I actually looked at fuel costs and it was costing me $800+ a month when diesel was near half what it is now.
I see why you bought the Spark.
I live out in the boonies and drive a decent distance to get to “civilization”.
