Hi!
I was wondering how much aerobic work does one have to do so his heart wouldnt get too big.
Coulnt find the offical word for it, i quess it is left ventricular and atrium hypertrophy?
I found that most of T-Nation programs involve 10-20minutes of aerobic work on off days- so is that sufficient?
are you talking about hcm which i think is hypertropic cardiomyopathy, but that is a disease process, and is more related to a person being born which a lack of certain chormosones or something like that
also i didnt quite understand your question, you said “how much aerobic work does one have to do so his heart wouldnt get too big” ? ? ? did you mean “how much aerobic work does one have to do to get his heart that big?” and the answer to that would be “a lot”
and as far as i know left ventricular hypertrophy is usually caused by a sedentary lifestyle, (most of the time, but not always) ei hypertension, cardiac overload, atherosclerosis, poor ejaction factor, etc, but 10-20 mins of moderate cardio or aerobic should not at all cause any problems, but if you have doubts get to your doctor first
hope i was of help
There are two categories of structural changes, known as concentric and eccentric hypertrophy, that take place in your heart as a result of how you train. Which category of hypertrophy you have plays a large role in your cardiac output and thus how well conditioned you are.
Eccentric hypertrophy is largely the result of high volume, low intensity, and low pressure training that typically takes place in endurance training programs. This kind of hypertrophy results in greater left ventricular volume and increased blood volume per stroke. This means that every time your heart beats itâ??s able to deliver a greater amount of blood and thus your resting and working heart rates are lower.(Longer duration, lower intensity/HR-LSD jogging, cycling)
Concentric hypertrophy primarily takes place under high load, higher intensity, high pressure (high resistance) training like that of Powerlifters, Weightlifters, and Wrestlers. Concentric hypertrophy means the heartâ??s walls are thicker, meaning they are able to contract with greater velocity, but the chamber volumes themselves are often not any larger than average.((usually)shorter duration/higher intensity - intervals)
I copied this from another thread, forget the author.
Okay…
Can someone put that all in the vernacular?
I do 6 minutes on a bike, then do some sort triple drop lifting with DBs. For example, do DLs with 90s to exhaustion, drop 'em and do 60s to exhaustion, drop 'em and do 40’s to exhaustion. Having my NDE (near death experience from this), I get back on the bike for 6 more minutes then repeat with a different body part. I usually go 3 such ‘rounds’.
On the weekend, I do this twice per day; sometimes on Wednesday as well (Tues/Thurs are my ‘long’ teaching days with an afternoon class). Tues/Thurs are rest days.
Is this good for my heart or not? I am 55, 4th degree BB in TKD, and usually eat pretty clean.
What they are trying to say is: Don’t sweat about it, do your training, eat clean, have fun, you won’t die from it.
