Carbohydrates for the Muscles

Grains were also added to the diet to treat certain psychological and physiological disorders.

But it has only been so popular in the last say 10 years.

You really like grains huh? Very weird to see a whole thread dedicated to championing a macronutrient.

Really? That seemed like the sanest part of this thread.

Sadly, I think you’re right. Every athlete and bodybuilder is stupid compared to our boy @SlowTwitch he’s the man with all the answers. I wish he’d write a book so I can follow it and win 4, count ‘em 4 Mr Olympias!

Yes I like grains, and fruits and vegetables and animal protein and dairy and nuts and legumes, etc.

You need the genetics first. Plus, the desire and the dedication and if you are willing to sacrifice your health, the drugs.

Just saying that the champs of yesteryear, although great, were eating high protein, low-carb diets that were not 100% ideal for muscle building. Are you telling me that Arnold, Zane, Sergio, Scott, etc could not have been bigger or better than they were? And Tom Platz acknowledges that when he added carbs to his diet than his gains went up. There’s no need to get overly excited on this subject. Can’t we have a discussion without overreacting and name-calling? Just relax everyone.

Hey I never called names! I’m taking notes coach!

Also, Sergio ate a lot of carbs. In “The New High Intensity Training” Dr. Ellington Darden says that Sergio’s favorite post workout meal was a large pepperoni pizza with a Coca Cola!

Yes, i think that is what most people here are telling you.

Certainly not by eating more carbs.

I think Zane would have been better by eating a more balanced diet that included complex carbohydrates. OMG, I am a horrible person who knows nothing and is wasting everyone’s time for believing this.

This is akin to thinking that i should be advising NASA on how to get to Mars because i made a bottle rocket in my garden when i was a kid.

What does it matter? You can’t get better than the best in the world. Their have only been 16 Mr. O’s in the entire history of the competition (okay, yeah, chances are many years were rigged, but still…).

So arguably, he is one of the top 16 bodybuilders ever. Period. Full Stop.

I am not as you say, “worshiping Zane”, only pointing out facts.

There are so many ways to skin the bodybuilding/strength sports cat and so many factors at play it’s impossible to build a single optimum solution for everyone…

Buttt this book I read back in 1987 told me that my bottle rocket would be the best bottle rocket in the world!

To be fair, they did miss an entire planet one time. Not by a little bit either. It was like a clean miss. Really clean.

Zane’s Mr. O wins were not without controversy. I would give the '79 Olympia to Mentzer and I haven’t examined the competitors in the '77 and '78 Mr. Olympia competitions but Zane’s physique didn’t impress me. Too thin, too small to be a Mr. O champion. Come on, people just admit it. He was not an impressive Mr. Olympia. His muscles were too small and too flat due to his high-protein and lo-carb to no-carb diet. :slightly_smiling_face:

And that book probably gave really good instructions for bottle rockets. Really good. Written by a really great bottle rocket maker. Just not something that NASA need to be bothered with.
