No it doesnt. Lower calories makes you lose weight. [/quote]

You know X well apparently…

LOL Im well versed in Xs responses to criticism. However that doesnt make my semantic response any less correct. If he meant “lowering carbs while leaving the rest of diet as is” then I totally agree. But to say that lower carbs diets can make anyone lose weight irrespective of total calories is just false. I gained fat just as easily following the Anabolic Diet as I did with regular high carb diets if I went over maintainence level of calories. Which is the point of bulking anyway and fat gain cannot be totally avoided no matter what your “macro split” is.

You have to realize that you possess an individual physiology.
There’s nobody just like you out there.
Just like there’s nobody just like me out there.

I can very much lose fat with the exact same amount of calories and a different Macro-split.
X can too apparently.
We’ve both done it already, so, how can you argue that we can’t?
You know what I’m sayin?

I need a lot more education to properly understand why it is that people react to and digest nutrients differently, but I know it’s true, just from my own experience.
Just like X said, less carbs, less weight, that’s regardless of whether I start sluggin’ down an extra steak a day to make up for the calorie loss.

Maybe I’m a weirdo though? Haha

Im still quite skeptical about one who says this. Im willing to bet that its still overall calories you are reducing. If not total “physical” amount of calories then the “bioavailable” amount of calories perhaps. If a persons digestion is less effective at breaking down a type of food into calories then the bioavailable amount of calories may be much less than is physically present in that food. So there could be something to that. Especially as X notes gas and bloating from too much carbs. That suggests he is unable to digest and process that volume of food from carbohydrates. Some specific digestive enzymes would probably sort that out and allow him to continue gaining from that same level of food intake.

So instead of Calories in/Calories out.
We could say Calories in/Calories biologically available/Calories out.
The biologically available variable accounts for everyone’s differing physiologies, and individual nutrient tolerance and uptake rate, ie metabolism, insulin resistance, etc.
I like it.
I will now be using this to explain to my athletes basic nutrition.
Hooray! (It’s tough to get 9-10 year olds to care, much less understand nutrition, haha!)

Dont forget Thermic Effect of Food which is tied up in there as well! LOL

In a perfect world you wouldnt have to, because the parents would know and care enough to feed their children properly!

The day after I explained calories to my team 4 of my lineman came up to me and proudly informed me of how many sodas and pop-tarts they drank that day, they reveled in their impending Hyoogeness, haha!
Needless to say we had a little bit more in-depth lesson after practice that night, lol.

It’s always a learning experience with young kids, for me and them, haha

Thankyou, sincerely.

Interesting where this discussion went. The calories certianly have to be biologically active.

ANother thing to think about with the switch of macros and no adjustment in total cals could be how you feel and affect NEAT in some way. But different macro breakdowns certianly have a different affect on physiology and on homrmonal profiles so i can see how it might be possible to do some macro manipulation to affect loss. BUt dropping carbs you will always drop weight right away as glycogen and water is dropped from the body.

Great disscusion guys
