Agreed. This kid in the commerical was basically me my whole life. First time i got to drive a 911 was a mid 2000s Targa 4 stick. Was so hard to change gears with the raging boner i had.

Hopping in here, just got my first porsche last weekend. Looks black in the pic but it is midnight blue metallic. And it looks super wimpy next to my old man’s 911 carrera S but at 26 its not a bad starter porsche. [/quote]

Holy shit… I hate you (in a good way). Is that an Cayman S? I wish I had a car like that when I was young… Shit I wish I had a car like that now…

I wish, its an '08 base model cayman, had under 21K miles on it, original owner kept in mint condition and hardly put 4k miles a year on. Business was good last year, now not brand new Cayman S good, but good

It’s still a sweet car, I just couldn’t tell if it was an S or not. You should have loads of fun with it… That would be a great car for track day.

If you have a couple of minutes, this is worth watching. Top Gear took a Bentley on a rally track, in which it actually did pretty damn good.

Pat,

That was a fantastic video.

Thank you.

Fantastic.

not sure if that’s been posted, but i doubt that’s what the ford engineers had in mind. Still would love a raptor tho, too bad theyre still insanely expensive.

The funny thing is that it’s an off-road truck and yet the air-bags went off. The guy hit it hard but that’s not necessarily a scenario that you wouldn’t potentially encounter. I wonder what the parameters are for when the air bags should deploy and if there’s a way to shut them off.

Jumping a truck 90 feet is something an off road truck would “potentially encouter?”

Now the engineers need to take into account the .000001% of people who buy a brand new $45,000 truck to jump sand dunes?

Buy a cheap ass dune buggy if you want to get some air. My neighbor is selling his for $5,000 and he tells me it goes 65mph/street legal.

Cars do that all the time when being chased by the po-po, I see no reason why a truck shouldn’t handle it.

The Ford website says that it is “Designed for the demands of extreme off-roading*”. High speed runs through the desert are part of extreme off roading. So, while you’re not going to jump 90 feet you’ll still get air and my question was around under what circumstances would the air bags deploy. Would the deploy if you got air under more mild circumstances.

And why would you buy a vehicle specifically made to go off road if you weren’t going to do that? To pose around town? That’s lame. And a LOT of people take $40k vehicles off road here in SoCal. Maybe the truck didn’t cost that but they got that much money into the truck when all is said and done.

If we were playing Family Feud and I had to guess the top 5 reasons someone buys and expensive off road vehicle I think it would look like this.

Out of 100 people pulled:
50 - Haul heavy equipment and thought the off road looked the coolest.
30 - Just like big trucks
10 - Compensating for other shortcomings
5 - Go off roading regularly
3 - Zombie apocalypse preparation
2 - Thought it was actually a live raptor

LOL…yeah, although the “just like big trucks” is probably a bigger chunk. That being said, the Raptor is a purpose built truck to go off road. It’s got a better suspension, clearance, etc than the 4x4 F150. The 90 foot jump is extreme but what if you got just a few feet and landed nose down? I wonder if they would still go off. I can turn off the ABS on my bike for track purposes and I wonder if the truck has something similar for the airbags.

YW… I usually cringe at doing vile things to cars like that, but that was well done and a great demonstration of how capable that car really is.
Sadly, most of the yo-yo’s who can afford and buy cars like that never have fun in them. There are few who know how to have a good time.
That’s why I couldn’t see me spending millions on a super exclusive car, you can’t drive it really. And I want to drive it. That’s what cars are for. (Not that I could afford one anyway, but still)
Shit happens to cars, it’s an inherent risk. If you have a car where only 30 were made, it’s basically museum fodder. What’s the fun in that?

Wow!
I like those trucks, but I wouldn’t do that… That frame is probably bent all to hell and back. Beware of buying a used Raptor cheap… It might be that one

The BroDozer scene in socal is hilarious to me. I knew a few people when i was out there who would save up, and build up their shitty ford ranger 2x4 for one weekend out of the year when they went to the dessert to jump it. Then the other 364 days a year theyre stuck in something they made handle, brake, and do everything else on the road worse.

Personally, i’ll invest my money in a car which will be enjoyed everyday of the year, and can hit the canyon roads whenever. To each their own tho, see the “is this chick fat” thread…

My Ride. She’s a big bitch bult for comfort not speed.

Some serious wet-dream material on this site, “Cars you’ve probably never seen or heard of before - 52 pictures”. I understand that these are now collectors’ cars, but damn…
