After talking with my doctor, we decided that creatine is too risky to take considering I have only one kidney. She said that the creatine can affect a gland in the kidney which affects the way it filters waste. I know that there has not been anything proven about this but thought I would avoid it all together just to be safe.
I want to know what other supplements I can use to gain mass and stay lean. I have used Nitrix with little success and am not a strong believer in Nitric Oxide products. I am currently taking fish oil, multivitamin, whey, and casein.
I am 5’11’’ and 171 lbs looking to get up to 190 to 200. Thanks for any help or advice you can provide.

Um… did she say anything about limiting your protein intake? I would’ve thought that would be a higher priority than checking to see if you can use something that isn’t actually a “mass builder” anyway?
Like the other guys are rightfully busting your balls about, dude, good ol’ calories will be your best bet. But in your situation, find out what the doc suggests in terms of a daily protein intake. You can still gain size if your protein isn’t super-high, but you’ll need to be more on point with the rest of your diet and training.
In this case, I’d also look into Leucine, to get an anabolic edge with every meal. But again, run it by the doc.
Creatine is not toxic. Everyone agrees on that much. Some have argued that its byproduct, creatinine, is toxic. It’s a complete falsehood, but it sounds just plausible enough to make it lucrative for companies to create fancy formulas to alleviate this imaginary danger.
Yes, doctors do use creatinine as a marker of kidney function. And, generally speaking, the higher your creatinine is, the more toxic waste products of metabolism you have in your system. But we have lots of research showing that creatinine itself isn’t toxic, with the researchers injecting extreme amounts into human and animal subjects. (16) Creatinine just happens to be an excellent proxy for the bad stuff in people with already impaired kidney function.
However, the process of making creatine in a lab can create toxic byproducts, such as dicyandamide, dihydrotriazine, and even arsenic. (2) Because creatine isn’t regulated by the FDA, you can’t be sure of the purity or safety of the product, which is why staying away from the cheaper stuff is a matter of both common sense and self-preservation.
As with protein, you’ll hear debates about possible kidney damage. Supplemental creatine does increase the amount of work the kidneys have to do, and we don’t know the long-term effects of this. What we do know is that studies ranging from six months to five years have shown no detrimental effects of creatine supplementation with doses ranging from 3 to 20 grams per day. (17)

Renal Stress:
Sensible creatine use doesnâ??t appear to adversely influence kidney function in healthy individuals. There is some concern, however, that â??creatine abuseâ?? may place undue stress on the kidneys, particularly during the loading phase when large quantities of creatine are being ingested on a daily basis. During loading the kidneys must work harder to clear unabsorbed creatine from the blood stream. Persons with pre-existing kidney disorders, or predisposed to renal dysfunction, such as diabetics or the elderly, should minimally omit the loading phase of supplementation, or abstain from creatine use altogether. These individuals, should they choose to supplement, should also be checked by their doctors on a regular basis.
and also look into finding a doctor that has fucking idea what he or she is talking about … that (and the food thing) should help
seriously. i work in dialysis and this is the most bogus medical advise i have ever heard. i’m not too into creatine bc it usually gives me an upset stomach so i don’t sweat it. just eat steak, salmon etc…
12oz milk + 4 Table spoons peanut butter + one scoope casien protien
Have this shake once a day in addition to what you are already eating. Its not super high in protien(46grams or so) but depending on the type of mikl you use youll get roughly 600-700 extra calories. plus its not that high in carbs(~18grams) so it can be had later in the day. Not too hard on the kidneys, lots of relativly clean calories and one of the best things youll ever taste.
