I don’t get it. Is a 300lb bench supposed to be a lot?

I don’t know what gym you go to, but I don’t see 3 plate bench presses every day.

And here we have 4 pages of replies of guys saying they can do it, with pictures few and far between.

Well, for a website supposedly devoted to serious lifting with a membership this large, it doesn’t seem unreasonable at all to me.

I don’t think I’ve seen a 315 bench in the commercial gym I work in. In the more “hardcore” gym I actually work out in, I’ve seen maybe a dozen guys do it, several of them under 180.

Anything I can do I just can’t be that impressed by to be honest.

just because it isnt impressive to you because you can do it doesnt mean that its still not ‘good’. a 3/4/5 certainly isnt easy. if it was easy then every guy would be able to do it.

personally i’ve never seen anyone weigh outside of 230 that can rep 3 plates on the bench. maybe thats why all these guys saying there were 170 benching 315 back in H.S. weren’t doing it for reps.

Tell 'em about your success with full-body training and let the fun begin.

maybe smaller guys ive seen do it. but i mean like 6’ft 230+

i’ve seen guys 230 @ lower heights bench 405 too.

but ive never seen someone who weighs in at 180 at 6’ft do either of those.

I want to do the above mentioned lifts in the future… oh wait…

Yeah but you don’t count cause your a freak of nature with the genetics of a greek god.

you bodybuilding guys… it’s supposed to be “can you squat/bench/pull/400/300/450”

as for me… i’m 675/520/675 at the moment. i’m hoping when i actually test my true max’s it’s more like 700/530/700.

of course i have the videos whoring these lifts if need be:)

No.

But now I know the numbers to strive for.

Yes to the pull (460)

For a guy weighing in at 200, 300 lbs would correspond to a 1.5x bw bench press, which is strong compared to your average gym goer but certainly not competitive or anything like that.

Like you, I rarely if ever observe bench presses of 300 lbs or more being put up at my current gym (university gym). Although I’m among the strongest guys there, I was barely allowed acces to my previous gym (hardcore)due to my comparatively low level of strength. My lifts are also absolutely dwarfed by some of the numbers people claim on this forum.

As for deadlifts, I believe some people can benefit tremendously from levers, arm length and such. A friend of mine pulled close to 200 kg on his first attempt at deadlifting, following only a couple of weeks worth of weight training. At the time, he could probably bench only 80 kgs with a squat somewhat higher than that. I see 450-pulls a lot more frequently than I see 300 presses, at my gym anyways.

I am much more impressed with a 400lbs squat than I am with either a 300lbs press or a 450lbs pull, although I agree that any of those are very rare to see at most gyms.

well levers work for every lift. theres a few guys at my gym who can bench a lot but it seems all they ever do is pressing movements or train pressing muscles like shoulders, chest, triceps. maybe some bi’s for good measure.

i think if i spent 3 months training PLing style i could hit a 315 bench. thing is im not a power lifter and while i do care about how much weight im lifting my goal is to be hitting it for 5+ reps not 1. so the first time i do bench 315 it will be for at least 6 reps.

powerlifting is great but a thread about 1RMs is kind of out of place in BBing. everyone saying they benched 315 at 180 is great…except i guarantee no one at that weight (above 5’9) looks like they even lift, so whats the point?

6ft 180 is very small. It’d be tough to find someone this size putting up that kind of weight. There is a 5’7 spanish kid at my gym that can’t be more than 180 who reps 315. I know its under your height requirement, but I almost fell off my bench when I saw it. Clean reps too.

If you believe his interview, Hugh Jackman said he used 315 for his working weight and he’s listed at 6’2 220. Not that any of this matters, just a couple of observations. My personal goal would be to rep 3 plates at a lean 6ft 220 lbs. But it’ll be a while till I get there since I’m bulking up to 250 1st.

Well that would describe most of the people in my gym , including my friends who tell me going all the way down is bad for my shoulders. I don’t want to throw the thread too far off subject, but you don’t think Hugh Jackman looked like he could rep 315 based on his physique in the Wolverine movie?

nope.

i dont think hugh jackman is any bigger than me and i cant rep 315.

raises hand for all 3

( I’m still working on finishing the 4/5/6 )

Didnt we already discuss your Dr. Cox like hate for Hugh Jackman like 3 months ago ?

Why is Live hating on Hugh Jackman? Is it because he is Australian and posts his lifts in kilograms, thereby causing Live’s head to hurt?

Burn.

Though you notice you put “light” instead of “weight”. If I was live I would pick up on that.
