What does a “retro rim” look like?

Essentially those are a rim style of the old muscle cars with chrome and gloss paint added to update their look and come in more modern desired sizes. Which is why I called them retro.

X, the American Racing “Torque Thrust” pictured above is a “retro” rim, they have been in production since the 60’s and are an american classic.

The rims on the silver 2011 I posted are blacked out in the middle of the spokes.

The black and red Boss is SICK!

That ‘classic’ rim is an “s/s 5-spoke”. I think a lot of people think “Cragar” when you talk about classic muscle and retro rims:

Everybody and their grandmother has 5-spoke rims on their Mustangs. Shit, just google “Mustang” images. That’s not much different than what you see on the road, because most people don’t go the extra yard to put their ‘stamp’ on their car.

This is a hot rim. I’d prefer the outer ring blacked out:

(That’s a great hood, too)

I like these as well. Let’s the brakes breathe:

6 spoke:

(black hub, though)

4 spoke (for obvious reasons):

This isn’t putting a stamp on it? This is what I like, more than the overly complicated chrome accent, stuff. Just personal preference. Call me simple and antiquated I guess.

That’s obviously putting a stamp on a car-- waaaaaay beyond a set of rims. You miss my point completely.

LOL. Really? I never wrote that either. I can’t believe you’re getting butthurt about things I didn’t type about rims in a car thread.

Keep typing, this could be epic.

PX- are there tinted windows laws in Houston?

Don’t forget to get a custom computer tuning for that extra HP!

Butt hurt? You made a point equating five spoke rims to not putting effort into personalizing the car. I disagreed and responded with a picture. You responded only by telling me I missed the point and then with the word “awesome”. I merely pointed out how I thought you were wrong and you’ve had nothing but childish responses ending with claiming I’m butthurt of all things.

No, I just happen to think the classic understated 5 spoke rims can look great on the cars in question and defended that point. So please, either address that and explain what you actually meant or shut up. rather than claiming, no that’s not what I meant over and over.

Sigh. Here we go. Even a fun thread has to go to shit…

What I typed was that most don’t go to far customizing their car. That’s why you see so many good looking, but average (read: common), stock cars like Mustangs on the road. They look like that on the lot. They look nice, but they don’t ‘stand out’.

5 spoke rim variations are stock rims. They often get replaced by other 5 spoke rim variations. They look good. In fact, it’s “classic”. They don’t, however, “stand out”. Sorry if that doesn’t sit well with you, but 5 spokes are common.

They’re like blue blazers, white shirt, and khakis. Can’t go wrong. Conservative. Safe. Always looks good, always a good choice when in doubt, classic, but not ‘stand out’. (And sometimes, that’s all you need).

Dude is looking for a ‘stand out’ vehicle. Personally, I don’t think they set the car apart (certainly not without other major mods). They certainly look nice (I’ve never typed otherwise).

Wow! Chill dude, we’re talking cars here. My God, don’t ruin a good thread.

yay. an intellegent exchange of reasonable points. that was all i wanted. and once again, im in no way upset, so please quit telling me to calm down. the only thing ruining the thread was you substancless posts in the discussion about rims. now i can continue the exchange elaborated and building on what was posted before.

i get what you are saying and agree more or less. i personally just dont think wheels should be what make a car stand out. i dont like it when rims are the first thing i notice. i think people mess up the lines of cars with big chrome eloborate rims. i think rims should blend in with a car that stands out.

like ive said. just my personal preference.

[quote]DoubleDuce wrote:

OK, but I haven’t said anything different than what I said before. (“Dat’s what I was tryin’ to teyl you befo’!”)

Cool. Moving on…

I agree with that as well. A car can stand out by being subtle. The Mustang you posted does just that. A simple styling cue or two is often what makes a car. That can be an electric orange paint job with a black stripe, or a black car with simple red highlights (look at that Firebreather). That’s why $5k of bolt-on aftermarket effects looks like shit on a $500 Japanese car.

The rims can still blend but stand out as ‘different’. Ever see poverty wheels on an old Plymouth (some people call them ‘poverty wheels’, ‘poverty caps’, ‘cop wheels’, etc)? Here’s poverty caps on a new Challenger (see pic). Nothing special, but that bitch looks MEAN. AND, it stands out by virtue that virtually nobody goes with that retro look. That’s all that car needs!

yeah, i really like that. thats exactly what im getting at.

LOL American cars…

Continue.

LOL @ New Zea… oh, nevermind.

  1. Mustang, no contest. Camaro is the bloated rotten corpse of today’s American auto industry.

  2. OnStar? How is that seriously part of this decision? Granted, it’s a cool service, but no real gearhead will ever say the words: “Camaro wins because it has OnStar”

You obviously haven’t read the majority of the thread. He’s pretty much decided on a Mustang.

Edit: 1) You do realize the Ford Mustang is part of the American auto industry as well?
2) As far as I know, the Prof hasn’t claimed to be a “real gearhead”, he’s just being practical.
