I’m tired right now - my body doesn’t want to go to sleep and wake up at the proper times so getting through the day is a bit of a struggle. Still, I made a point of hauling my fat arse to the gym this morning.
I’ve decided to follow a Heavy Duty-type approach, as in one all-out set per exercise, with maybe a warm-up set or two if I feel I need it. I’ll be shooting for 12 reps, so once I can get 12 with the chosen weight, I add more weight next time. I’ve done this before and it was pretty effective. It is also kinder on the old joints, since I’m not using super heavy weights, and it’s highly time efficient. I’ll be doing this until I feel my body is able to handle heavier training again.
The exception is going to be chins as I can only get a couple of reps with them, so I’ll do a few throughout the workout.
As today was my first session for over two weeks, I didn’t go balls out (I’m a little stiff - some of those coasters really beat the shit out of me, and I haven’t stretched for a while) but I pushed a bit.
Warm-up (dislocates, shouders stuff and the like).
Military Press
(Warm up: 10 x bar)
12 x 25kg
Will add weight next time.
Chins x 3
Decline Push-ups (shoulder-width hand spacing) x 10
Oof I didn’t expect these to be so hard. Feet were on a step (4 risers), elbows by my side. I’ll be adding reps to these rather than weight - but if I get into silly numbers I’ll add risers. I don’t have nice things like chains to play with.
Chins x 3
(well, more like 2.5, honestly)
24kg Dumbell Rows x 10
40kg Bench Press x 10
I stopped more because my right shoulder felt iffy, rather than reps. Not painful, but I pay attention to the warning signs since this shoulder has been buggered for almost 20 years and I don’t want to make it angry. I’m sure it’ll be happier once I’ve got a few weeks of mobility work down.
Chins x 2
40kg Pulldowns x 12
Will add weight next time
Weighted hyperextensions (10kg) x 12
Will add weight next time
A fuckload of stretching.
Got on the scale. 10 st 9lbs (149lbs/67.7kg). Not good, but not bad considering all the crap I ate in America. Fortunately riding coasters is a pretty good workout (I even had buttock DOMS after an hour riding Twister at Knoebels - it’s pretty violent and my legs had to do a lot of bracing. Intimidator 305 at King’s Dominion gave me an awesome core workout too), and walking around, even at a leisurely pace, burns more calories than sitting on my arse at a desk.
My aim is to drop down to 140lbs. Once I see how I look at that weight I’ll decide whether I need to go lower. My upper body’s not too bad but I have a shitload of cellulite (yuck) that doesn’t seem to respond much. But I’m going to shut the fuck up now before I start to sound like an FA girl.
