Thing with layers is that if they get wet, they take longer to dry than something thin. But I think (I hope!) it was a one off. Hasn’t happened before, at any rate.

Happy to report no accidents today but then it was shoulder and arm day, so I bloody hope not. On the other hand, I did have the worst night’s sleep. I went to bed at 10pm and was out like a light. Woke up around 2.30am or so (I always always always need to pee in the middle of the night so I never sleep right through - and there I go talking about pee again).

Thing was, I couldn’t get back to sleep. Although my eyes were heavy, my brain was not having any of it. Eventually (some time after 3am) I thought, fuck it, I’ll get up, have a cuppa, clear up the mess on my desk and hopefully I’ll be tired enough to go back to sleep again. So I did that. Tidied a little bit. Did my accounts. Then made the fatal mistake of turning on the PC to, you know, just check some forums and stuff.

By which time it was 4.30am and my heating had come on (I usually get up at 5.30ish). Well, there was no point going back to sleep now so I just muddled around on forums, played a bit of Skyrim and then headed for the gym around 8. I was tired, but I actually wanted to go.

There are time when I go to the gym because I feel I ought to, and times when I can’t be arsed to go at all (usually the week before Flo shows up), so on the occassions I actually have some enthusiasm, I’m there, no matter how bushed I feel. (After all, that’s what caffeine and ephedrine are for).

And I was there almost three hours. Granted, I rested a bit longer than normal and supersetted less, but I got it done.

Warm-up: Hypers, reverse hypers and inch worms.

Military Press:

20kg x 10
25kg x 10
30kg x 10 (= Saturday’s PB)
32.5kg x 5
35kg x 3
37.5kg x 1
40kg x 1
42.5kg = Still no. Grrr.

Although I repped out at 30kg, I didn’t push to failure on the subsequent sets (well, except the 40, which is my 1RM after all) in the hope that I had something left in the bag for 42.5kg but no, still couldn’t get it above my eyebrows. I guess the fact I’d had 4.5 hours sleep and my shoulders were sore from yesterday didn’t help much either. 40kg went up first try, though.

I’m thinking I need to get more reps at the lower weights before I try again. That could take a while. Still, my reps are going up a bit, so there’s still hope.

On a separate note, I am a twat for doing millies the day after deadlifting. I know it’s a bad idea, but I did it anyway so, surprise, I have a couple of angry lumbar vertebrae. Good job I have some rest days coming up.

Power Cleans:

Bar x ? (I don’t know, forgot to count)
30kg x 10
35kg x 8
40kg x 5 (I think - I’m tired, damn it)
45kg x 2

Alternating DB Snatch:

14kg x 20 (10 per arm, alternating)
16kg x 16 (8 per arm)
18kg x 12 (6 per arm)
20kg x 8 (4 per arm)

Very tired by the end of these.

Rear Dumbell Flye:

8kg x 20
10kg x 12

Dips:

10, 8, 8

Last time I got 10, 8, 6 so this was a win.

Superset: Overhead two-handed DB extension/seated supinating DB curls

18kg x 10 (+2)/10kg x 10
20kg x 10 (win!)/12kg x 8

Pleased with these - much better than last time.

Push-up into plank with T-rotation: 10 x 2kg dumbells.

Also tried one arm push-ups. Can do one on each side but the left one bothers my left shoulder a bit. I got another on the right side then called it quits.

Then dicked around with some gymnastics stuff. I was too fatigued to really nail handstands and cartwheels today so after a few of these I moved to headstand work and worked on a few variations (frogstand into headstand, straddle headstand, pike headstand). Rolled over quite a bit but did OK. I want to develop more body control, which seems to be lacking. I guess I need more core strength.
Then a lot of stretching. I probably spent 45 minutes on the mats in total.

And that’s it for this week. Three days of school to get through before the next gym session.

Going for a PR on little sleep and after doing that much shoulder work already was probably doomed. I’ll bet you need a better day to attempt the PR. If it were me, I’d give it a couple of weeks of volume and then look for a good day to nail it.

Yeah, you’re right. I’d be better if I was fresher. But I hate making excuses. I’ve made too many lately. Time to suck it up and get on with it!

Oh I’ve farted before, and loudly, right in front of a young and not unattractive guy. But I was in the middle of a set of 50 deadlifts and wasn’t going to stop then either. Eh. Nothing, and I mean nothing, has been as bad as the time when I sharted at work. This is a few years ago (not my current job, thank goodness) and I was in the throes of my sugar free gum addiction. They ain’t lying when they say sorbitol has a laxative effect.

Nothing to report today exercise-wise since I was at school, save for a back that ached, crunched and popped all day thanks to that rather moist deadlift session on Monday. Weather has turned freezing cold and I’m dreading after school netball club tomorrow. At least in lessons I can do stuff in the gym. Netball, not so much.

Also managed to lose the ball off one end of my nipple barbells yesterday (yeah, even my tits like to lift weight) triggering a panic as I didn’t have a spare. Kept it in place with micropore tape so it wouldn’t close up and then set about finding a piercing studio near my school. Fortuantely there was one close so I rushed down there after school and they were able to replace the ball for a couple of quid. Crisis averted.

Also sliced my finger on a tuna can this evening. Tiny cut, but Jesus it bled like a motherfucker. Typing with a crusty finger as we speak.
