I remember it flared up quite a few years ago. The doctor prescribed me ibuprofen gel. facepalm
So no, I don’t bother with the doctor unless I have an ailment I either can’t fix myself or is weird or scary. The other foot problem is being seen to, eventually, but whether it’s actually treated or not, I don’t know.
I know why the achilles gets cranky - I pronate a lot on that foot. I have a large Q angle on that leg (the knee doesn’t track over the foot - it moves inside it so the foot splays out) plus years of ankle spraining has done it no good. Orthotics aggravate the sesamoid issue so they’re out. I just have to be patient and let it do its thing.
I’d advise doing lots of toe raises Cal-I’ve read a few articles that that’s the best “prescription” for chronic achilles tendonitis (or -osis, I suppose). Ugh on the foot, you are far better at being patient than I!
The problem with toe raises is that toe flexion bothers my sesamoid problem so I have to be really careful. I did a few today though.
Gym session today was a bit of a fail. I had big issues with the squat again.
20kg x 10
30kg x 10…sort of. I had to stop after 7 and wait about 30 seconds before I could eek out the other three. Decided to keep reps low thereafter.
40kg x 5
45kg x 4 - again, had to stop because of the weirdness.
50kg x 1
55kg - no. Walked it out, started to bend my knees and it just didn’t feel right.
So yes, big fail there. This is pissing me off. I was doing sets and sets of high rep squats not long ago.
Gave front squats a try anyway and was slightly more successful.
20kg x 10
30kg x 5
35kg x 5
40kg x 5
RDLs
2 x 50kg x 5
I went looking for the step to stand on but it had gone walkies. So I did my third set with a snatch grip.
1 x 50kg x 5 (snatch grip)
Didn’t like that much - hard on the wrists.
Leg Press
80kg x 10 (+10 calf raises)
120kg x 10 (+10 calf raises)
160kg x 10
That was it really. Did some handstandy stuff and a bit of stretching.
I did not feel fulfilled by that workout in any way - I think I will change tactics for new year (when I’m going to be looking to burn fat).
I hate when training is emotionally unsatisfying. Lol! Just reminds me to not get so wrapped up. Like my pilates instructor says (flamboyantly gay black man) “its not that serious”
Yes! Can’t wait to see what you concoct for the new program too! You seem to be teeming with energy and motivation, so I think a change of program could really shake things up. Looking forward to it!
Heh, my pilates instructor was a flamboyantly gay Portuguese man. (That was a few years ago, mind you). Maybe there’s something about all that butt clenching that appeals to gay men?
Shoulders were sore this morning - why?! Front squats? I don’t know.
Anyway, headed to the gym for last circuit class of the year with Hiten. I warmed up pretty thoroughly:
Hypers x 20
Reverse hypers x 20
Clams x 20 (per leg)
Shoulder mobility stuff with body bar
Overhead squats (with body bar) x 10
Stepovers (pin 8) x 10 (per leg)
Stepovers (pin 10) x 10 (per leg)
Back Squat: Bar x 20
Anderson Squats: 2 x Bar x 5, 30kg x 5
I put the bar on the safeties (unlike last time) and made sure to pause slightly at the bottom per rep.
Class was good but achilles did not like the warm-up (lots of star jumps and stuff. It’s a fun warm-up but my achilles was pissy today).
Afterwards did some handstand stuff and some stretching. I guess I was in the gym about two and a half hours.
Bad news is, no getting around it, I’m a bit fat again. Belly and inner thighs are jiggly and my arms look soft. Grrr. Strict diet in new year. No fucking around this time (unlike this year when I waited until JULY to diet off my winter weight).
December 19th and I come bearing gifts. Or rather, videos. Featuring my boobs, heavily. I didn’t really think through my choice of clothing today - I prefer vests because the air con in the weight room is broken and it’s hot in there, but it’s laundry day so all my good vests are in the wash. I was left with this one that has one of those internal bra band things that doesn’t work so well when doing physical shit. Anyway, please excuse the Valley of Doom shots - or enjoy them. Up to you.
Warm-up: Usual hypers and mobility shizzle.
Burpee deadlifts, for those who didn’t know what I meant before. I thought I did 10 or 11 but seems I did 13. I got distracted by my right nipple trying to make an escape bid.
Sumo Deadlifts:
60kg x 5
70kg x 5
80kg x 5
90kg x 1
100kg x 1 - went up quite fast!
110kg x 1 - I thought I’d got a vid of this - I set the camera up only to find it had switched itself off afterwards! All that effort…grrr. Only one thing for it - go for a 2011 PB.
115kg x 1 - fuck yeah! A lot of gurning as I try to lock it out and one near booby escape but I got it done. This is actually only 2.5kg (5.5lbs) off my all time PB. So I’m nearly there - and I intend to surpass it.
If any of you power ladies has any advice about improving my lockout, fire away. I figure I could use some more strength in the upper back.
With that in mind, on to upper back training.
DB Rows
22kg x 10
24kg x 10
26kg x 10
(These were per arm). Hot guy from the circuit class snuck in while I was doing these and started using the Smith machine. I guess he got a good view while I was bent over, heh. I suspect he has a S.O. however, because he’s always checking his iPhone. He did say hi, though.
Close Grip Pulldowns
50kg x 10
55kg x 8 - I guess I could have got 10 if I’d had a gun to my head but I was tired by this point, unsurprisingly.
Straight Arm Pulldowns
20kg x 10
25kg x 10
Did some handstandy stuff and then home for brekkie.
You’re such a gorgeous creature, Cal. Its insane! And your arms are looking diesel! Despite what you say about having an extra kilo or two on you, you got some great definition.
And yes, your boobs are amazing! (so fucking jelly) No wonder they’re trying to escape - they say, “show me to the world!” haha!
I got no critique on the DL form, sorry. They looked good to me, and it looked like you locked that bitch out with no problem…I must say, your back is incredibly strong!! I’m surprised you don’t pull conventional.
Anyways, you’ll be hitting that 120kg in no time!! I’m so freaking impressed by how quickly your DL number shot up. Good job, woman! Way to end the year on the high note. 2012 is gonna be awesome for you. And the diet, you can do it!!
Major win on those videos! I am stealing those deadlift burpees. Perhaps for my Xmas Day at-home workout since my gym is closed and I’ll be working with the equipment I have handy.
Count me in as a fan of your boobies. Those of us with little ones are indeed jelly.
I didn’t think your lockout looked bad, but if you want to work it I’d suggest heavy rack pulls from the sticking point.
Ha, they’re not that big, really - a handful at best. They’re a little bigger right now because a) carrying more winter fluff and b) Flo’s due soon. When I diet they look like last year’s party balloons.
@deja - ah yes, I guess vests to you are what we call waistcoats. In England, vests = wifebeaters. (What I was wearing today is a tank, yes). What is it they say about us being two nations divided by the same language? (Of course I find it hilarious when American men talk about wearing suspenders).
yeah Cal vids! it’s officially the holidays.
and the puppies are hot! Just glad I didn’t have to watch you at the gym today cause I’d get no work done at all:)
killer workout
awesome deads
2012 will bring you some fantastic numbers indeed.
Cal: Deadlifts are coming back fast and strong. So glad you’ve got a new pr in your sight. I love a comeback story. I think that tank is a lucky one. Might I suggest you wear it on all your dling days.
