squatting is super awkward and frustrating. kinda relieved I can’t do it anymore…at least not with heavy ass weight.
That is a crap load of volume!
Thats like the ultimate superset! I gotta try that. Looks great for the circulation too. The blood wouldn’t know where to keep up.
Circuit class today. Sweated like a mule - abs will be sore tomorrow!
Didn’t do anything extra. I could have gone for a run but my achilles is still tender when I press it so I’ll give it a bit longer. It didn’t bother me during the class, though.
Actually that’s a lie, I did do some handstand work and even braved a few cartwheels. I’m still rubbish at those but hey, I’ll work on it. I’ve got plenty of time over Christmas when the gym won’t be busy.
Next week the usual Sunday instructor, Hiten, is off, so we’ll have the other guy, Artur, the large Polish fellow who is in love with burpees and mountain climbers. Bugger.
Artur sounds like a sick fuck. Have fun with him next week. Glad you’re working on your cartwheels. Those will really help you gain some upside-down spatial sense.

Ha! That reminds me - back in 2008 some friends gave me a nice birthday surprise at WI Dells - we had dinner at a Mexican restaurant next door to a coaster, so I had to wear a fucking sombrero with balloons tied to it on the ride. One solitary balloon survived (unlike my dignity).[/quote]
I missed this last time I was in here…tell me you went on the duck rides. The ultimate cheesy american activity of the midwest!
I hope that feeling you’re getting during squatting goes away.
And haha! Nadia, I love your way with words. Artur sure does sound like a sick fuck.
I went on the Ducks back in 1999. Back then they were unusual - now the bloody things are everywhere, even London!
And yes, Artur is a sick fuck. I hope he eases up on the plyo - I fucking hate plyo.

I have to confess that I almost bailed on the gym. This not being able to squat business is getting me down - or rather, making me very apprehensive about it. Plus it was fucking cold out and the choccies were calling my name. But I told myself not to be such a fucking pussy and went anyway. Mixed it up a bit.

You’re a better woman than I, my kids came in with candy their final presentations last week, and I ate loads of it.
The superset looks hellish.
Ha, oh I’ve eaten it. Just later, not when I was meant to be training!
Do you think the achilles is acting up due to the running? I sure hope not, but you are right to be cautious.
Re the squat issue… Gorl it is what it is. Don’t let it get you down! You do your best and thats that.
I just reset my max and yanno what, fukkit. It is what it is. I’ll lift what I can lift PROPERLY I have nothing to prove yanno.
Kimba - I think not running regularly is what the problem is. I didn’t have any problems with it when I was doing my half marathon training and that included quite a few long runs.
Hallowed - yeah. Doing more volume at less weight is what’ll give me nice quads anyway.
OK so no training yesterday, partly because I was lazy, partly because I was sore, and partly because I was working on lesson plans for next term so I didn’t have to do them over Christmas.
Went to the gym today instead.
Warm-up:
Hypers x 20
Reverse hypers x 20
Clams x 20 (per leg)
Step-overs x 10 (per leg)
Evil burpee deadlift of death: 50kg x 10
The last thing I added on a whim. Load up the bar and start with a push-up with hands on the bar. Jump feet forward and then deadlift the bar. Jump feet back, rinse, repeat. Oh fun!
Deadlifts (sumo):
60kg x 5
70kg x 5
80kg x 5
90kg x 3
100kg x 1
105kg x 1
110kg x 1
I wasn’t aggressive enough with the 100 (220lbs) so it was a bit slow and awkward. The 105 (231lbs) was better. So I thought, fuck it, I’ll go for the 110 (242lbs). I have done it before but not for years. It was ugly as fuck - my body must have resembled a question mark. But I locked it out. I did recruit my legs more but it is so hard for me not to round my back after all those years sitting in front of a computer. I have a crazy hypermobile vertebrae in my t-spine that acts like a hinge. I noticed in circuit class my back was pretty round when I was doing front squats (as part of a squat clean/press combo). I guess more upper back work is needed.
After that I just fucked around with some supersets to get the rest covered:
T-bar rows: 20kg x 12
Push-ups x 12
Close grip pulldowns: 55kg x 10
Push-ups x 10
Straight arm pulldowns: 20kg x 15
Tricep rope pushdowns: 12.5kg x 10
Supinating dumbell curls: 8kg x 10
Two-handed dumbell overhead extension: 18kg x 10
Seat hammer curls: 10kg x 10
Did some handstands stuff but I sucked because I was fatigued.
And that’s me done until Friday.
Tomorrow is a nice day at school - end of term assembly in the morning, poetry competition and then in the afternoon we do party games with the kids.
Thursday is carol service, staff Christmas lunch and then home early…and that’s it until 9th Jan! So (aside from the parental visit over the Christmas weekend), lots of time to train. And I need it because I’m starting to feel fat. My diet hasn’t been at all good. I’m going to hit it hard in January.
YaY Xmas holiday!!! I’m feeling fat too, too much wine. Evil burpee deadlift of death = I can’t even imagine it, not sure if I want to ;-p
Wow Cal! Awesome training in here!
Nice little warmup, might steal that.
And that DL is no joke! You’re also picking up some serious momentum. Love it!!
Keep it up!
Look at that deadlift! Yup, I know it was probably ugly…so are my heavy attempts in exactly the same rounded-back way. But this is great that you are back on the heavy lifting team!
Yeah, I’ll bet the lack of regular running is the issue. Perhaps try short and frequent runs to get back in the game?
Evil burpee deadlifts of death - I like!
Well Kimba, the last two days the achilles has been bad. Wednesday (when I wasn’t teaching PE but was organising parties for the kids) I wore flashy silver Nike trainers with shox. The 1 inch elevation at the back was not good.
And then yesterday was the carol service - I couldn’t wear my kitten heels (too much ouch) so I wore my cowboy boots and even the heel on those made it worse. It seems I’ve been in barefoot shoes so long now my feet won’t tolerate anything else.
Vacation…ahhhh
Enjoy it!!!

Ah you know Patches will want to see some pics of those shoes at some stage ![]()
Flashy silver Nikes eh?
Cal: DLs are looking strong and seem to be coming back quickly. Sucks about the achilles. It’s always something. My sciatica is finally better and now my shoulder is a bit bitchy as is my back. Fuck.
