Cal's Big Log 3D - Attack of the Giant Arse

LOL! I totally wear specific clothing for specific training…just for luck facepalm

Ha, they’re not that big, really - a handful at best. [/quote]

Anything more and you risk a wrist sprain. (badumbum)

(was told that once…i’ve had some awesome boyfriends)

Seriously, you girls and your ‘winter fluff.’ You have a fantastic shape, really!

I’m totally stealing the Burpees of doom, thanks!

Took a day off yesterday but seems one day wasn’t really enough (not surprising given Tuesday was a max effort deadlift) and my lower back is cranky. I attempted some squats but it didn’t go well, so it ended up turning into a conditioning day.

Squats

Bar x 10
30kg x 10
40kg x 9 (got that woozy feeling again, damn it)
40kg x 5 (back was grumbly so I aborted and went to Andersons instead)

Anderson Squats

Bar x 10
30kg x 5
40kg x 1
30kg x 5

The 40kg wasn’t good - I should have gone to 35kg first. The problem is that I don’t have the mobility to get right under tha bar when it’s on the safeties, so I’m actually lifting the weight with my shoulders and arms for the first part of the lift. Which is OK with 30kg but not with 40. Hmm. May have to rethink these or go back to using the lowest rack pin instead of the safeties.

So anyway, I didn’t feel like doing anything heavy so I went into the other gym and did various horrible things I’d picked up from Crossfit and/or circuit class.

Burpee with box jump x 10
(Exactly the same as the burpee deadlift, but with a step to jump on instead of a bar to pull. It was a low step, to be honest, because the good step is missing (it’ll be in the exercise studio I bet) but this white girl can’t jump anyway.

DB Snatch

14kg x 10 (alternating arms - 20 reps total)
16kg x 8 (16 reps total)

KB Swings x 30 (trainer left a KB out - it was too scuzzy to see the weight but I guess it was a 12kg because it didn’t feel heavy)

Bastards x 10 - OK, that’s not the real name because I have no idea what the real name is. You stand with feet either side of a step and holding a medicine ball (5kg in this case) at arm’s length. You swing the ball up, much like doing a KB swing, whilst jumping onto the step. It’d be excellent training for snatch, I imagine.

Burpees with box jump x 10 - yeah, couldn’t get enough of these today. Heh.

Double bosu ball push-up x 12 (feet on one, hands on the other. Round sides down)
Yeah I used bosu balls. Get over it.

Inch worms x 10

Some handstands and stretching.

I love how you describe your training. You have quite the way with words.

Just catching up here, nice vids, everyone has already said what I would. You and your burpees you crazy woman.

Today was going to be millies but a young man was ensconced in the squat rack so I had to improvise (I didn’t mind because he was squatting properly, and he had a very nice bum).

Squat Clean and Press:

Bar x 10
25kg x 5
30kg x 3 (I just got tired, really).

Triset: Overhead Press, Bent Over Row, Push-ups (from bar)

30kg x 5, 5, 5
32.5kg x 5, 5, 5
35kg x 5, 5, 5

Power Cleans:

40kg x 5
42.5kg x 3
45kg x 1

Superset: Rear Delt Flye, Push-ups

6kg x 12, 12
8kg x 10, 10
10kg x 8, 8

Drop Set: Seated Dumbell Press

14kg x 10
10kg x 4
6kg x 5

(This was done as one set, no rest. Ouch).

Superset: Rope Pushdown, Hammer Curls

15kg x 12 / 10kg x 12
17.5kg x 10 / 12kg x 8

That was enough really. I did some handstands but I had had enough by then since I had to get to the supermarket (and they have run out of turkey breast joints. Bugger!)

Workout felt pretty good. Lower back is still a bit grumpy and achilles tendon is whining like a 5 year old who has been told they can’t have any sweets.

You’re the burpee queen, I’m stealing the box ones too.

LOL!! So true. I love this, “did various horrible things” HAHAH!

And your ad hoc workout is effing brilliant! I love it and would totally steal it. Looks killer. I love cleans, they are a total body workout, that’s for sure. And btw, you power clean numbers are IMPRESSIVE! I need to catch up to you!

Great work! And lucky you with the plethora as tight asses that hit your gym. Damn!

Yesterday Flo turned up and I ate a whole box of mince pies (that’s 6) that I’d intended to take to my parents. Which meant I had to go buy more today. So I decided to be a real cunt to myself at the gym.

Warm-up: 20 x hypers, reverse hypers and clams

TRISET x 3:

500m row
10 push-ups
20 squats (no weight)

Time: 11:28.22

Ghastly, in a good way.

Burpee Deadlifts: 15 x 50kg

Burpee with Box Jump x 10 (I thought I might be capable of more but my legs were almost gone)

SUPERSET x 2:

20kg T-Bar Row x 10
Bastards* x 10 (5kg medicine ball)

*Please see my previous-but-one workout for an explanation of bastards.

DB Row:

24kg x 10
26kg x 8 (grip was limiting factor, mostly on the right hand)

Close Grip Pulldowns:

55kg x 8

Straight Arm Pulldowns:

25kg x 10

I would have done some mat work but the retards decided to mop ALL the mats at the same time so they were all fucking wet.
But just as well because if I’d stayed in the gym much longer I would have started leaking.

I’m going to have a cup of tea and then will have some fried eggs on crumpets with asparagus.

I’ll try to go to the circuit class tomorrow morning before heading off to my parents for three days of mind numbing boredom and stress.

Haha, YES.

Have a great Christmas, Cal. I hope some happiness and joy sneak in between the boredom and stress.

Doubtful but perhaps there will be a Christmas miracle.

Until then, Happy Christmas everyone!

Oh hell yes…I so live vicariously through all of you who are gobbling up tons and tons of goodies!! This is so fucked up, but I cannot, and I mean CANNOT wait to dive into a terrible binge of chocolate and ooey, gooey carbs on Jan 1.

Have a wonderful Christmas, Cal!! Rest up and relax, eat yummy foods and stay warm. Have a great weekend!

Thanks. Just did my last circuit training class of the year. Artur normally does Saturdays but he was sick so Hiten took over, which was great. Got very sweaty and tired, then home for a bath.

I’ll be catching the train down to my parents later this afternoon. I hope I don’t go crazy there! I’ll try to sneak out for a walk or two if I can.

Until I return, have a wonderful Christmas everyone!

Thanks, Cal. I hope Christmas turns out better than you expect.

I love it when you say “crumpets”.

I’m back. Survived OK. Parents were very appreciative of my cooking. I did eat a crap-ton of cheap chocolates and biscuits (that’s cookies to most of you) but I don’t appear to be fatter. Managed to get a 1 hour walk in on Christmas day. Helping my mother on and off the commode and into bed took care of the strength training.
I don’t know what’s up with the spare bed but my back feels awful. Happy to be back in my own bed tonight.

Gym tomorrow!

Oh yes…nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is better than one’s own bed. Ahh…

Glad you had a good time! Have a great training sesh!

Training today. Back felt better for being in my own bed but I’ve pulled something on the lower right hand side. The corresponding hip flexor is testy, too, so there’s obviously a connection. Thus no attempts at heavy deadlifting or squatting today. My workout was also a bit of a mish-mash.

I’d wanted to keep some intensity but the loud crowd were in the free weights room (why can’t they talk without shouting? FFS) and then someone had the temerity to ask me how my Christmas was and then proceeded to whiffle on about their own. Anyway, this was how it went.

Usual hypers, clams etc to warm-up.

Burpee Deadlifts:

15 x 50kg

Squat Clean & Press:

Bar x 8
25kg x 6
30kg x 4

Power Cleans (supersetted with 6kg lateral raises):

35kg x 5 (10)
40kg x 3? (10) I got distracted by the Christmas talker to I forgot how many I did. I think it was 3.
45kg x 1 (10)

My back and groin were being gnarly so I didn’t push it.

Millies:

Bar x 10
30kg x 5
35kg x 4
37.5kg x 2
40kg x 1

40kg is my PB but I can’t seem to get past it. It did feel good enough today that I had two attempts at 42.5kg but they didn’t go above my chin. I think I need some fractional plates.

Decided then to ramp up the intensity again and went into the other room.

Alternate Sets:

Box Jump Burpees x 10
14kg DB Snatch x 6 (alternating arms; 12 total()
Box Jump Burpees x 10
16kg DB Snatch x 6 (as above)
Box Jump Burpees x 10
18kg DB Snatch x 6 (as above)

I’d intended for these to be supersets but the box jump burpees winded me enough that I needed a short rest before I could go on to the snatches.

After that I was pretty much done.

glad the time spent with the parents wasn’t too bad.

nice millies - fractionals might be a good idea.

I started doing a kind of press where you basically press back and forth over your head (they have a name, that escapes me at the moment) and that helped me break through the chin breaking point on presses.

Glad to see you’re back to killing it in the gym. Hopefully getting a normal schedule will get the body feeling back to normal.

That’s great to hit your MP best and have it feel strong. Maybe next time you’re maxing out jump from 37.5 right to 42.5?
