I’m not desperate for a man at this point. I’m quite happy being single (actually, I like my space and am quite set in my ways). But I wouldn’t turn down a fellow if I find him attractive and if it turns out that we’re compatible (eg, someone who wants marriage and kids down the line isn’t going to be happy with me for more than a short fling. And someone who is homophobic won’t work because almost all my friends are gay. Nor will someone who loves R&B because I fucking hate it. etc etc).
Anyway, I didn’t train today. I woke up late (after 7am! Unheard of!) feeling as though I’d been hit by a truck. I did do a few sun salutations and a few kettlebell swings in my room but that’s about it.
I will train in the morning - my afternoon is all taken up by school stuff (bloody parents evening - on my day off as well!)
So, got training in but whilst I was at the gym I realised my out-of-sorts feeling is, yes, another virus (or perhaps the same one) trying to come out. FFS. I feel a bit woozy now, just sitting in my chair. I’d be OK with it if it were a normal Tuesday but no, I have to go in for parents’ evening. Yay.
I steered clear of the big lifts today.
Band Assisted Pull-ups: 5, 4, 4, 3
These were crappy. I think I’ve put weight on. Actually, I know I have but I’m too scared to get on the scale. Next…
Millies:
Bar x 10
25kg x 10
30kg x 8
32.5kg x 5
35kg x 3
37.5kg x 1
Did not go for max today, but I didn’t do badly.
T-Bar rows: 25kg x 10
Close Grip Pulldowns: 50kg x 10
Push-ups x 15
Straight Arm Pulldowns: 20kg x 15
Overhead single db tricep extension: 18kg x 10
Seated supinating dumbell curls: 8kg x 15
Tricep rope pushdown: 15kg x 10
Standing hammer curls: 10kg x 10
A few handstands but was having trouble clearing my head after each one so left it at that.
I hope my system crushes this virus - I do not need to be feeling shitty during my last full week at work before Christmas.
I hadn’t realized you weren’t dieting anymore, so what are your goals now? Well, other than kicking the virus? I swear schools of any kind are just germ factories. I occasionally worry about all the crap on the papers I bring home to grade.
Cal: Hope you’re feeling better. This teaching gig sure has you running from one virus after another. Hopefully, your immune system catches up this year. In time, I’m sure, you’ll be one of those people who is rarely ever sick…
Yeah, it hasn’t turned into a cold - I had the beginnings of a dodgy throat and was sneezing a bit but it’s just a vague, under the weather feeling. I’m sure I’ll be fine for the weekend. I’ve had long periods where I’ve not caught anything, but other times when I seem to be sick every couple of months. I’m sure my immune system will sort itself out.
Retaining sanity through the holidays is a fantastic goal!! I think I’m going to make that a goal myself.
DOMs from Tuesday = Win! You hit it hard. Good work!
Virus from lil monsters = No win. Bleh! Kids and their little hands touching everything…but at least your immune system is building up a heck of a tolerance!

Worse than that sometimes. Last week one of the nursery kids was actually licking the gym mat. Ugh. Today, I noticed it was wet in one area. Then the teaching assistant pipes up “Joana’s wet!” and sure enough, the kid had pissed her pants. Lovely!
There are a couple of kids with permanent runny noses, and a year 5 girl had a lovely case of impetigo the other week. Germ bags, the lot of 'em!
I’m feeling mostly OK but still sneezing a bit and am quite tired. But I only have one full day of teaching left - next Wednesday is end of term assembly, school poetry competition and then party games in the afternoon, and Thursday’s the carol service. Then it’s off until January. Yay!

Ha! That reminds me - back in 2008 some friends gave me a nice birthday surprise at WI Dells - we had dinner at a Mexican restaurant next door to a coaster, so I had to wear a fucking sombrero with balloons tied to it on the ride. One solitary balloon survived (unlike my dignity).

When you say things like this, and you’ve mentioned that there is a “headmistress,” I can’t help but imagine that you teach at Hogwarts.
Good day today - put the gym bars out for a treat (this time last year I did the same thing and was running for the first aid kit every lesson so I vowed not to do it again) and no accidents. No tantrums either, staff meeting finished at 4pm so I could go home earlier than normal, and two pressies from pupils (choccies).
I have to confess that I almost bailed on the gym. This not being able to squat business is getting me down - or rather, making me very apprehensive about it. Plus it was fucking cold out and the choccies were calling my name. But I told myself not to be such a fucking pussy and went anyway. Mixed it up a bit.
Superset #1:
Squat: Bar x 10
Miltary Press: Bar x 10
Squat: 25kg x 10
MP: 25kg x 10
Squat: 30kg x 10
MP: 30kg x 8
Squat: 32.5kg x 10
MP: 32.5kg x 6
Squat: 35kg x 10
MP: 35kg x 3
Squat: 37.5kg x 10
MP: 37.5kg x 1
Squat: 40kg x 10
MP: 40kg x Fail (then waited a bit, took some breaths and had another go. Got a really shitty rep on my tiptoes)
Squat: 45kg x 5
Push-ups: 10
Squat: 50kg x 4 (yeah, I know. I have done 12 reps before. It’s nothing to do with muscle failure - I started a fifth rep and felt like I was going keel over if I didn’t rack the weight pronto)
Push-ups: 10
Supserset #2:
T-Bar Row: 20kg x 10
Push-ups: 10
T-Bar Row: 25kg x 10
Push-ups: 10
This squat thing is pissing me off. I don’t just get this feeling during squats - sometimes I have it just being upright. But with a loaded barbell on my shoulders, I’m not taking chances. I think it’s just the after effects of the virus but today the weight room was stupidly hot which probably didn’t help. Well, at least I got some volume in at lower weights.
Went into the freezing cold machine/cardio gym to do the rest.
Superset #3:
50kg Close Grip Pulldowns: 10, 10
14kg DB Snatch (alternating arms): 10, 10
The snatch was total 10 reps per set so 5 each arm.
Did some handstands after that, then grocery shopping which is a workout in itself since I use a basket not a trolley, then dump the heavy shit in my backpack and the rest in my two bags for the walk home which is uphill. Heh.
I’m doing circuits tomorrow - hope I’m not too sore.
Oh and achilles tendon is being a cunt. It’s fine walking or doing weights but hurts when I press it. As I said last time, I’ve had longterm problems with it but not for a few years. I put some turmeric in my eggs this morning - don’t know if it’ll help but hey.
