Just bought a jug of glycerol monostearate powder, read it is good for looking more vascular for competition day. I want to try it before the competition (I’m 8 weeks out), but I can’t find nutrition info so I can correct the rest of my diet. Via google, it’s a fatty acid…so should I figure 9 cals/g? That doesn’t seem right…if anyone has any info please let me know
Did more googling, found the product and it says it has 0 calories (something doesn’t seem right about it) and it also says it should be taken 1:1 with another ingredient like creatine to increase absorbtivity.
I was just going to take it mixed with water, but would taking it with creatine or something else help with vascularity?
It has approximately 27 calories per teaspoon.
Marathon runners use it 4-6 hours befor a race to “super/hyper” hydrate. As it pulls moisture into the muscles, abit like creatine. When glycerol is ingested, it is absorbed and increases the concentration (technical term: osmolarity or tonicity) of the fluid in the blood and tissues. The concentration of these fluids is held constant by the body, so water consumed with the glycerol is not excreted until the extra glycerol is either removed by the kidneys or broken down by the body (Freund et al., 1995).
The gain in body water is typically up to a liter, depending on the amount and timing of the ingestion.
Hope that helps.
