Just curious how many people here train in some form of martial arts and what style? I do Thai boxing, grappling beenat it for a good while now. Before that I was in Tae kwon do for years and years.
I trained in a lot of different arts, but was never really serious about it until a couple years ago. The farthest I ever got in anything during my youth was a yellow belt in Tae Kwon Do, and I picked up a white belt here and there in other stuff. Mostly, this was because I didn’t have time to train very long; being a military brat, we moved a whole lot. So whenever we went to a new duty station, I’d go looking for a good instructor in the area, and most of the time I couldn’t find the same style. So I studied more or less everything I came across, from Maphilindo Silat and Muay Thai to Tai Chi Chuan and Savate. I never accomplished much in anything, though, and I wouldn’t really say I “know” any of the styles I’ve studied. At best, I’m familiar with some of the basic principles.
I’ve always been interested in Wing Chun, but I’ve never found a good teacher for it. Currently, I’m maintaining a static level of skill in Kali, and planning to fit a dojo back into my schedule and budget in a couple months.
Muay Thai and K-1 fighter. Also play about with grappling for a change of pace.

I started in Karate when I was 10, trained in that for a year, than, after I moved to canada, I started training in Shaolin Kempo. After 3 years of Kempo, my instructor committed fraud, and ran away with our money. After that, I joined another dojo, where I’m still currently at, and I train in a style called Sikaran, which is a Filipino style, but otherwise very similar to Tae Kwon Do (ie long range kicking style). I’ve been with this dojo for 2.5 years, and it’s better than ever. The most senior member from my old dojo became an instructor in this club, so I train in both Sikaran and Kempo. The 2 complement each other very nicely.
I’ve done Judo, BJJ, shootfighting, Muay Thai, wrestling and western boxing.
Currently, I only box though. Planning on starting BJJ again, soon
Hey CanadianCroCop,
I’ve trained in boxing pretty much most of my life. And started brazilian jiu-jitsu about 7 years ago.
If I was ten years younger and know what I know now I would have loved to have gotten into a no holds barred ring.
“Sancho”
Took a little bit of Kung Fu when I was younger. The past 5 years I’ve been looking for a place that teachs some kind of Muay Thai/Tai boxing and I may have finally found it. I’m gonna check it out immediately. I think they do like Jujitsu/Muay Thai and some other crap. I can’t wait.
Karate, BJJ, Wrestling but they are all in my past now. I am now content to simply train the body!
Um, wouldn’t you be CanCop and not Canadian Crocop? ![]()
MMA. We do boxing, submissions loosely based on jiu jitsu, grappling, and some kickboxing.
I am starting at Renzo’s academy this week or next to really up my grappling and submissions, which is nonexistent.
I’ve been doing Taekwondo WTF style for a couple of years and am mostly into the competitive side of the sport, and that is the reason I’m hear, to gain an unfair edge on the competition using effectice training methods with compound and olympic lifts and that sort of stuff.
Training like that is almost unheard of where I live, so it gives me quite a good edge on the competition.
Been training in Krav Maga for two years, following a couple years of judo. Aside from being a blast, it takes care of all my cardio training needs. However, I am starting to get old enough (40 years old) to ache all the time. Between weight training and Krav I have multiple pains at any given time. In fact, I often wonder if I am overtraing, but then say to my self, “so what if I am.”

Ahhhhh…nice to see fillipino arts here, i should have clarified, i do arnis de mano thai boxing.
Many years of Aikido, have fallen out due to knees and time.
Also some amateur wrestling, TKD, and Muai Thai.
I started my martial arts training with a legendary southern pit fighter (illegal fitting) he was undefeated and the best illegal pit fighter in history he trained in sambo, savate, judo, wrestling, and boxing. All you old timers who now about the old no holds barred fighters now who I?m referring to. Any way?s I trained under him in NHB fighting for 2 years. Besides me the only other person he trained was the legendary UFC competitor whose nickname was the Pit bull.
I also trained in Krav Maga and Muay Thai until I became a certified instructor in both disciplines. I?m currently learning BJJ and (real) Ninjitsu.
Freestyle Wrestling
Boxing
Kung Fu San Soo
Gymnastics…so I can look like I do wushu lol
Thai Boxing
Some submission experience.
I didn’t even notice the filipino martial arts.
I stickfight with the dog brothers. so specifically Pekiti Tersia combat system.
I have trained in a lil bit of everything. I am currently pursuing a black belt in Hapkido, and I have dabbled in a bit of Kali, TKD, and Karate. I have done some self defense stuff too…
I started training with my son about 7 years ago in Tang Soo Do. It was a lot of fun as we finally got our 2d degree. I have also achieved a 1st degree in Hapkido.
At my age,39, the Hapkido is VERY painful! The joints ache for days!
It makes training tough at times but as I am sure everyone else does you work around it!
