This topic is unfamiliar territory for me, and I’m hoping someone can help. My grandfather was just diagnosed with colon cancer (which has apparently also spread to his liver and lungs), and will be beginning chemo very soon. Although the doctors feel they can “buy him time”, they are not optimistic about any type of remission or anything like that. I am wondering what foods or supplements might be beneficial to him as far as keeping him somewhat strong and/or comfortable throughout the process. From what I understand, it is damn hard to have any type of appetite while on most types of chemotherapy, so I guess even just getting him to eat would be great. Is there anything I can suggest for him that would help? Any advice anyone can give, as always, is greatly appreciated.
It is going to be a long hard road, and I wish you the best of luck. My mother just went through intensive chemo and radiation treatment (it was successful) and is now recovering. As far as diet goes, look into macrobiotic diets. People hve made miraculous recoveries by changing their diets. While he is on the chemo, it is going to be tough for him to eat though, once the nausea sets in. The main thing is to get him to eat. He needs to keep up his strength. Shakes are probably going to be the easiest thing him to keep down. Stay away from strong smells, strong flavors, and anything that may irritate the throat or stomach (acids, spices). Hope this helps. Good luck.
I think I can help you out. I’ll drop you an email tonight.

Check out the work of Dr. Bernie Segal(sp). He has a very all-round approach to this kind of thing. He lives in CT last I checked. Best of Luck.
There was a discussion at Dragon Door about this that included an article about tumors. Check it out here (just remove spaces):

Read “Spontaneous Healing” by Dr. Andrew Weil. It has good advice all around, from diet to activity to holistic healthcare.
Quantum Healing by Deepak Chopra is a good read as well.
