Does anyone know the reasoning why, in his last article, Charles Poliquin states “… Those on a high protein diet have no need for a calcium supplement anyway.”
thanks

I think you would have to clarify what type of protein. Animal protein, specifically red meat, creates a surge of 44 times more phosphorus which acidfies the body. I’d say you definitely want some kind of calcium to offset that, so you don’t remain in an acid pH environment.

UHHH
Note to self
If that is what Charles Poliquin actually said, then never listen to him… EVER
Anyways… I have read SEVERAL times in several different books that increased protein consumption, especially with refined protein promotes calcium loss.
They call it the “pissed away bones effect”. So it is recommended that when you increase your protein, you increase your calcium. If your protein is being increased alot from supplements, then increase your calcium further.
I drink alot of milk, and take a multi, and eat sardines, so I am not worried about it at all.
Didnt he say Iron?
just going off memory, but the quote is something like, any red eat eating man doesnt need more iron in his diet.
You can also just make sure you are eating lots of bicarbonate rich vegetables your keep your pH levels in check. There are alot of Berardi articles about the acid-base blood balance.
Well this is for all you know it all’s out there. Who got it all figured out. you should look into this web site and do some reasearch if oyu guys are looking for your calcuim in cows milk you are fishing a dry whole. check out this website it has some valuable info on it. www.notmilk.com

he might know about milk but he sure doesnt know much about soy milk!
i would agree with the acidic effects however, and the need to pile down alkalising foods.
BIg Daddy Barnes, you’re right that spinach is high in calcium. The problem with it, though, is that the oxalates in spinach tend to bind the calcium, making a large percentage of it unavailable. Humans only absorb about 5 percent of the calcium in spinach (i.e., 12 out of 244 mgs of the calcium in a cup of cooked spinach). On the other hand, about 100 of the 300 mgs present in milk is absorbed.
Spinach has lots of health benefits and other things going for it, though, so don’t stop eating your spinach! Spinach is a Power Food, right up there with blueberries and tomatoes and olive oil and sweet potatoes!!!
If your mixing your protein w/ milk maybe
Perhaps he meant that most protein powder, if that’s the source of the added protein, has a good amount of calcium in it as calcium caseinate even if listed just as casein.
For example, Low-Carb Metabolic Drive doesn’t have deliberately-added calcium, simply the amount provided that way, but that is per 100 g protein 100% of the RDA of calcium.
So if protein powder or dairy provides a high amount of protein, a good amount of calcium will be provided too.
It’s true that on a meat-based “Anabolic Diet” sort of diet, with no supplementation or care given to the question of calcium, it’s possible for calcium to be lower than it should be, though, as beef has very little calcium (only about 220 mg per kilo) so I don’t think it applies as a blanket statement.
Here’s the article w/the quote.

It was someone else quoting Charles from one of his seminars. The quote is about 3/4 of the way down by the Scareface picture.
I guess no one has any insight as to why he said that.
Undoubtedly, something was taken out of context or a crucial piece of information was omitted. Such is life on the Internet.
OK I am a long time milk drinker. My mother is a Rn, she studies a lot of all natural life style living. My cousin is a pro bodybuilder. I am a body builder and myself. i have several friends who are in med school and several friends who are doctors. And I always do plenty of research on shit before I draw a conclusion. I have been told bye all the above that milk is for babies. And not for humans it is for a growing baby calf.
I also have gotten the same answer from all the above, that after the age of two we are all lactose in toelrant. We stop producing the enzyme that breaks down (HUMAN MILK)not (cows milk). Now like I said I love cheese, milk, cottage cheese, the whole nine yards. I want someone to help me make since of it. Cause i can’t it does not make since. drinking some fluid that causes insulin spike, that causes osteoporosis’s(makes bones week er)and drink something that my body recognizes has calcium and protein but are bodies don’t have the key to open the door.
Also I have heard milk causes slow intestinal bleeding. O the thing about the spinach I have never heard of that before I am sure if I look around enough tho i would find some nut saying that it is bad for me too. I think that only applies if you cook it. I eat mine raw almost everyday. But i will looking to it thanks!(Good ***t)
Again for all you guys I am not saying I have done the testing myself. I am not a scientist, but think about why we all drink milk. Who puts the presidents in office the FDA food and drug administration, Oil, Health care. Now think for a minute if we found out a way to run cars without oil lets say on water!!
And if we found out that milk was bad for us? And that all the flue shots and measly shots and rebella shots were all just another way to get in our pocket books. I am not trying to o sound like a conspiracy theory but something to think about. If you guys Get a chance are have the money check out the book BODY BYE GOD it is a great book check it out.
O one last thing if anyone has some reliable people or facts to back up that I am wrong please let me know because I am jonesing about know for tall glass of milk. And some cottage cheese, and applesauce!!!
Well, there are people for whom milk is not good for them.
If it seems to be causing you any problem, but you crave milk, you might like kefir. It’s great stuff, basically a drinkable yogurt, and the plain low-fat stuff has a good nutritional balance: per 1 cup, Lifeway brand has 14 g protein, 12 g carbs (8 g sugars, 3 g fiber, 1 g unaccounted for) and 2 g fat. Also very high in beneficial bacteria, used to ferment it.
The bacteria use up a lot of the carbs that had been present in the milk.
Some that don’t do well with cow’s milk do well with goat’s milk. It also has a pretty good nutritional profile: lowfat Meyenberg brand per 1 cup has 8 g protein, 11 g carbs, 2.5 g fat.
The lactose intolerance issue should be solvable with lactase enzyme, e.g. Lact-Aid tablets or Dairy Ease drops added a day beforehand. As you know lactose-free cow’s milk is also sold. However, inflammation problems may not be from the lactose but from protein allergy, which the enzyme does not solve: only shifting the biological source of milk can though is not always successful. I don’t know if lactose-free goat’s milk is available.

We drink milk because it has been a staple for living since, ohh… I don’t know - humans and milk producing animals first coexisted ?
If everyone was lactose intolerant after the age of two, then why is it people can drink milk and not have the side effects a “lactose intolerant” person can?
If you pro bodybuilding cousin says cow milk is only for calves then I can’t squat due to bad knees.
I don’t care what anyone says, I grow when I drink milk - so ill keep drinking milk.
