Caffeine Addiction

HELP! I’m sure many people on these boards have been addicted or are addicted to some sort of stimulant… I have hit rock bottom, I drink at least two energy drinks a day (about 400 mg caffeine) and that costs me $1671.70 a year!!(4.58/day) This is a ridiculous number for a teenager to be spending on a stimulant! I try to stop but I have massive headaches and stomach aches when I don’t have any caffeine (no matter the sleep I get). Does anybody have any tips on overcoming a caffeine dependency?

Take some ibuprofin for the headaches and quit cold turkey! It will get better in time but you have to quit.

yea, have someone kick you in the balls everytime your addiction begins to take hold…i promise, you will get over it real quick…good luck

Wean yourself off or suck it up, quit cold turkey, and suffer for a little while.

Seriously, either make a plan to cut back gradually or shut off. These are your only two options outside of going on with your habit.

No one ever said knocking addictions was easy.

Cold turkey is the best way, there’ll be some seriously low and slow days without it, but suck it up.

Just get dirt cheap caffeine pills of coffee to “get your fix”. Energy drinks are overpriced and should be used sparingly.

Two energy drinks a day is a lot man. I would try to cut back to maybe some green tea or coffee if your worried about the money your spending. The headaches will go away in a couple days so I would tough it out if your trying to quit completely. Try getting some quality sleep and be sure to drink a shit ton of water.

The “expert” advice I’ve read always says to do it gradually to avoid withdrawal. I was up to three 26 ounce cups of coffee each morning (plus Spike and whatever else) during the day after twenty years of heavy coffee use. Things were BAD.

I’ve basically given myself adrenal fatigue/permanent overtraining syndrome from it. I just did it cold turkey a year ago and went through hell for 10 days. I still use green tea for the theanine (calming effect) and some occasional soda but stay away from heavy duty stuff.

Just don’t be a pus** and stop. If it hurts suck it up until it goes away. I use to drink jolt like it was water & then I quit and didn’t touch caffiene for 2.5 years.

Cut back on your caffeine intake SLOWLY.
Gradually decrease the amount you have during the week -that or find a new, but healthier addiction.

Try taking some caffeine free Spike while decreasing the amount of caffeine you consume. Since you claim to be addicted to stimulants,it might help some.

Life without caffeine? No,thanks. Drink coffee. It’s a lot cheaper and better tasting than any energy drink.

Is it the cost that is bothering you or the ensuing adrenal fatigue? If it’s the cost, caffeine pills run at around 5-10 cents per 200mg tab.

I agree with the cold turkey method for caffeine. i drink a couple cups of coffee a day but once every few months I will go one whole week without it just to prove to myself I am not addicted and can quit if I need/want to. However, i really only see good effects from the caffeine i drink so i do see a reason to quit.

Yeah some Caffeine-Free Spike or Power Drive could help a bit in coming off. But you will still feel like crap when you come off the caff.
I really like Power Drive for this but you need to take it every day for a while and at first you’ll still feel shitty.

Forget the “weaning” shit. Quit cold turkey. I haven’t had any caffeine in more than a month (came off from somewhere around 500mg/day). As for the headaches (lasted about a day and a half), I drank a lot of water and chewed a bunch of bubble gum (the crap-tastic full sugar kind).

Take some extra vitamin C to help your adrenal gland (and all of your glands really) recover. Some melatonin and ZMA would help with sleep and recovery. Power Drive can get you going in the morning and will help with CNS recovery, too.

Be prepared to have some really bad “blah” days. Until your body readjusts, there will be a lot of them. I’m just now starting to get back to normal, but still feel tired and dead on my feet by noon. Just take it one day at a time.

2 Energy drinks=400mg of Caffeine??

what energy drinks are those?? :open_mouth:

You’re still feeling down from it??

Usually an addiction to caffeine or other energy boosting supplements can be a result of your diet.

Try upping your fruit intake, or if that doesn’t work go for stuff like rice, oatmeal etc.

I agree with quitting slowly. It worked for me anyway.

I was up to 3-5 cups of coffee a day, plus 2-3 glasses of pepsi (i know, this shit is evil), plus an energy drink for my workout… Then maybe a Starbucks with the girlfriend in the evening.

What happens is, I tried to go cold turkey, but whenever the headaches got too bad I’d just have a half glass of something caffeinated.

Now I can take it or leave it, which normally is one small coffee in the morning at school. But if I miss it for 2 days on the weekend, I don’t get a headache.

Also, I strongly believe too much caffeine, too often will halt your progress in the gym. This should be inspiration enough to quit.

Luck, bro.
