Quitting Stimulants for Awhile

I have been getting massive limp dick while taking preworkouts and am caffeine addicted to the point where I consume around 6 extremely strong coffees a day. Today is my first caffeine free day and I have had a terrible headache and feel like passing out, work was hard to get through.

Really want a coffee, did not think it would affect me this badly.

Is there any way that you can just cut back gradually? In the last year, I’ve reduced my coffee consumption from about 76 ounces per day to about 8-16. If I had much more than that now, I think I’d pay for it dearly and I used to go to bed with a coffee on my night stand.

If you’re used to caffeinated coffee and enough of it, you will most likely get headaches if you go without. They aren’t pleasant but are temporary.

Lay off on pre-w/o stims if they’re affecting you that badly. Sometimes your body needs a break from all of that stuff. Give your adrenals a break. You’ll feel much better in the long run.

Estimating 90mg caffaine/cup of coffee… ~540mg of caffeine (or a little over two Monsters). Not really that much caffeine.

BUT… caffeine is one of very few truly addictive (physically addictive versus mentally addictive) substances. Going cold turkey can actually be dangerous. I used to take in ~2500mg of caffeine a day and a nurse said, “First, you need to get off that. Second, if you go cold turkey, you’re going to have a heart attack.” It took over a year to ween myself down (still taking in ~400mg a day).

You’re probably having more than your body can handle (I had heart palpitations), so it’s good to cut back. But maybe, instead of going from 6 cups to zero, try 6 to two (one morning, one lunch?) or six to one for a short stint before cutting it out completely.

Yeah I have had the heart palpitations too, when I was taking jack3d before workout, yohimbe in the afternoon along with 6 double shot espresso americanos throughout the day. I went all hunter S Thompson on legal narcotics. I was encourage-able, like an egg sucking dog.

I’m going to assume you meant “incorrigible.” :stuck_out_tongue:

I have a really bad reaction to yohimbe (and citrulline malate, for that matter), so maybe analyze how you respond to those substances in isolation as well.

I would go with what Jackie said and ween yourself off. Might save you some suffering.

Stick with a few cups of coffee a day, one being pre-workout.

Cut back too much (I) got massive headache too.

I started brewing mine 50/50 with decaf, helped alot. Still strong enough to melt a spoon, but less caffine

Has been working for me. Plus, I go to straight decaf after ~2pm or I can’t get to sleep.
