Buying A New Car...But Which One??

Hello all. I’m in the process of buying a new car since my beloved Ford F-150 is bleeding my dry at the gas pump and I’m going to sell it soon by Blue Book value. Currently I have the Honda Accord and Ford Focus models on my list but open to anything else that is economical on gas.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Can’t go wrong with the accord good gas and a handa all you need to do is put gas in it and change the oil and they last forever

What are your needs in a car? If you are looking for a basic car with good gas milage, I’d look at a diesel VW golf. In a basic gas sedan, an Accord or Camry will hold their resale value and run for ever with just basic maintenance.

Either car would probably serve your needs if you are already considering them. Find one you like and take the plunge, but make sure it’s used unless you have so much money that immediately depreciating value is of no concern to you. Personally, I have no experience with either vehicle, but I have some family who have been quite happy with their focus.

if you buy a “certified” used car you usually get a warranty longer than a new car. 100k & 6yrs vs 60k & 3yrs
getting a Toyota or Honda will put you in a vehicle that will last for years and have great resale value.
if you still want a truck look at Tacoma.
are you buying through a bank or your insurance co? I have USAA and they have a guaranteed price through selected dealers. Costco also has special deals.

With a German sports sedan or a sporty convertible, yes, but with a more standard car like he’s looking at or a truck, this depends on a lot of variables, including factory incentives and special financing. I recently traded in my 2010 Silverado 2500 HD for $3500 less than I paid for it new after 3 years use and 29k miles because I got a smoking deal on a year end closeout and a pile of factory money on top of it when I bought it with 2011’s sitting on the lot; I also got a smoking deal on the 2013 on closeout with a pile of factory money on top of it when the 2014s were just starting to hit the lots.

why don’t you buy a chevrolet?

Since you’re considering a 4-cyl sedan, I would check out the Mazda 6. Great MPG and it seems to be winning a lot of comparisons to other sedans. They definitely have some of the best looks for current sedans.

I have a 2012 Base model Jetta S and love it. Good on gas and was cheap. They also have TDi and hybrid models.

My 96 f150 is on its last legs also. I no longer need a truck and I’m sold on the Honda accord sport when the truck does die. IMO Ford has come a long way with cars lately. Honestly, all the research I’ve been doing… IMO you couldn’t go wrong with either.

Good choice. I have a Mazda 3 which is a little more compact than a 6, but it is a great car. I’ve had it for four years and haven’t ever had a single problem with it. Handles well and gets good gas mileage. My car doesn’t have the skyactive technology so it doesn’t get as good as MPG as ones that have been out the past 3 years.

Chevy Cruze. I had the 2011 Eco model and I loved it. I think it looked more aggressive than a lot of the other vehicles in it’s class and got up to 42mpg. It is a 1.4L turbo 4cylinder and a cheap and easy tune will push the mpg even higher as well as giving you added performance.

They now also have a turbo diesel model which is good for 48mpg I think.

Hey guys sorry for the delay.

Basically I’m just looking for a car with great gas mileage(city and highway) and does not come with too many unnecessary features other than Sirius XM. Definitely will add the VW Golf and Chevy Cruze to my list of options. I don’t need the vehicle right away but will want to be making the purchase within 2-3 months time.

My Cruze came with Sirius XM, OnStar, and bluetooth connectivity. Of course, the 1st 2 require subscriptions after the trial period

How about a Leaf?

Haha! Betcha all thought I was going to say Tesla!

Serious about the Leaf though. They really are great little cars. I can’t say fun to drive, I’d say interesting and quite pleasant.

My friend got a ridiculous lease deal of 200 a month and nothing down on his. I pay 140 a month in gas for my truck. Makes the Leaf sound pretty compelling.

Eww. This is TNation, man. Get that shit outta here

I just placed a factory order for a Wrangler, can’t fuckin wait!!

Just got a '14 Ford Focus ST after having Civic Si’s since '06. Have been hesitant on purchasing American cars over the years due to reliability reputation and lackluster interiors(in my opinion and that of a few automotive journalists). But I can honestly say that the interior of the new Focus is at least as good(quality of materials) as the Civics I had. The ST might have more than what you want, but the Focus and perhaps the Fiesta are worth a look.
