I recently inquired about a BMW offered at half Blue Book value. This is where I’m at in the process. I’m not going to buy the vehicle, but I’m going along to try to figure out the scam. I’ll probably contact Ebay about this “protection program” but I wanted to see what the Nation had to say first. What do you think, guys?
***As i’ve state in ebay listing I just moved to Sweden, my wife’s native country because her parents are old and very ill and she wanted to be close to them in the end. The car is here with us as well.
I have bought and registered the car in the US, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to register it here in Sweden. For that I have to pay a very big fee and I will also have to start an individual procedure for the car through the Government and I really can’t afford those expenses.
You don’t need to pay any other fees, only the title trasfer that is $99.00.
Shipping will be done by Lufthansa Air Cargo and the car will arrive in 5 working days at your address. The car will be insured at the shipping company for the transport. All documents, including owner’s manual in English, clear title and bill of sale will be provided along with the car.
Shipping will be free as my father in law works for Lufthansa Air Cargo and I can ship it to you free of charge.
Also this car will arrive with all the documentation required for registration and the keys.I will send you all the papers and documents (clear title, bills of sale, car’s manual) to prove the ownership and to be able to register it without problems. The clear title and the bill of sale will be both signed so you can become owner of the car on the spot.
This transaction will be done thru ebays motors protection program, I always choose ebay to protect my deals.
I have a Purchase Protection Account for $20,000 with eBay so everything will be smooth and safe.
Here’s how it works if you never used ebay’s Motors Protection Program:
You send me your full name and your shipping address so I can initiate the transaction with eBay.
eBay contacts you with further details about the payment and the shipping.
You submit the payment to eBay, eBay confirms the payment and asks me to make the shipment.
I ship the car which should be at your door within next 5 days.
You inspect the car and if everything is as expected you tell eBay to give me the money or you ask eBay for a %100 refund and return the car free of charge.
Basically all you need to do is give me your full name and shipping address so I can start the secure transaction thru eBay.
eBay’s Motors will hold the payment until you confirm that you are satisfied with the car. They will release the payment to me only after you tell them to do so.
Let me know if you have questions.
I find these two statements rather disconcerting. So the seller’s father in law is so old and sick his wife wanted to move to sweden to be with him, yet he’s well enough to have the company he works for ship a car from Sweden to the US for free? Sounds sketchy to me.

Me too. And what employee gets to air ship a car for free? The president, maybe, and thats about it.
Is it 4k buy it now, or is that just the bid. Also is there a reserve. Those are some things to check, I looked on E-Bay but could not find that specific item.
Also, if your looking into buying a new car, why a BMW? sorry im just not beemer fan.

That brings up another suspicious element. It wasn’t listed on Ebay. I found it on Craig’s List. It doesn’t seem likely you can use Ebay’s protection program with out actually selling on Ebay.
The add on Craigs List was flagged by users and pulled in less than an hour. I emailed him before it was pulled, though.

The shipping does sound fishy but i searched 98 bmw 328i and all of them are right around 4 grand. so the price is about right.[/quote]
I checked Kelly Blue Book on the car, it was high sevens, nearly 8 grand.
i can see your concern but about 6 months ago i bought my jetta for $6900 and it blue booked for $13,000. no problems at all. of course, it was a nice plus to be able to take it to a mechanic before buying it.
The reason craigslist flagged it down so quickly cause they (CL community) recognize it. Ummmm there was a link to something like this. I’ll need to find the link first.
This is definately a scam, about a year ago i saw an ad selling a WRX STI with almost exactly the same language and after i asked to see the car befor purchasing it the buyer stopped returning my emails.
hey guys not all good deals are scams but a lot of them are. I have bought a couple of vehicles off of ebay without much false advertisement. Personally, i would do business only with people located in the United States. Sweden, WTF? everybody has an excuse for somehting, but free shipping? thats a red flag right there showing you that something isnt right.
Also, your profile says that you are in Washington. Where is the car located? A scam that some people do is they get totalled cars, fix them in the U.S. or Canada, take it to Cananda to clear the title, thus eliminating all records of the vehicles history, then re-import them to the U.S. with a new carfax/ history and no way to retrace any of it.
Maybe you would like to look for a car locally and spend the couple extra grand but have the assurance of seeing it in person and test driving the car. IF you do go through with this on ebay, check the sellers feedback.
If you want any help with this, feel free to PM me, as i have experience with this. Good Luck.
