But what kind of life is it???

Crazy bastards…

6 ft. and 115?? I hope no one has to see him naked! lol

GFH!

The last time I was 115 pounds was in 6th grade!!!

wow that has to suck

I don’t want to wish this guy dies or anything, but how funny would it be if this guy ended up dying because he weighs less than my left leg? Like, imagine he gets pinned down by a sappling tree in a storm or something.

It’d be like, “Yeah, great, you might have lived longer…if you weren’t such a pussy.”

Ah the promise of a long life barely eating…no thanks.
I’d rather die at 70 like a normal person having fond memories of indulenge

On that note, The oldest living person today turned 116 last week.

“Eat good meals - eat pork fat, gherkins and potato, drink good vodka and wine. That’s my recipe.”

I really doubt that cutting calories like that will lead to a longer life. It said he is taking supplements to get the proper nutrition? Try eating a piece of fruit!

If you are starving your engine of fuel, how long can you expect it will last? And if this guy is limiting his calories so severely, how much can he possibly exercise? We all know that exercise is important to live a long an healthy life. Cardio keeps the old ticker ticking, and resistence training allows you to keep mobility into your elder years.

I have no doubt that this concept will be debunked.

Calorie restriction was begun by a prof. from UCLA, Roy Wolford. Wolford has been doing this exact thing since the early 1980’s. The theory behind calorie restriction is that it is supposed to trigger a gene which somehow extends your life.

It is supposed to add 20 to 25 years to your life span. So in theory if you were going to die at say 75 you could make it to 100. Then again maybe it will just feel like you have lived longer!

It’s to whacky for me-I’ll take good nutrition and hard exercise!

If you haven’t before, check out the Life Extension Foundation. They have been researching ways to extend life and combat diseases for decades now. They don’t have all the answers, but they do base their ideas on science and research.

So, maybe you can live longer with calorie restriction. Maybe you’ll avoid most heart and cardiovascular problems as well as many of the issues caused by glucose – which can wreak havoc on the body over time. It’s just another path (though not ours).

Hehehe. I guess the meek really are trying to inherit the earth, huh? I love it, man, I can see the headlines already:

“According to New Research, Scrawny Wimps Live Longer”

Don’t get me wrong, now, I’m all about sticking around for longer than I deserve to, but – jeez! Is this the case of “the candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long” going on here or what? I want to grab one of these poor calorie-resticting bastards by the throat and remind them that they get one shot at this life… WE ARE NOT MEANT TO DWINDLE!

Things like this drive me nuts.

I guess it all comes down to quantity vs. quality…and I just can’t see how they could live a quality life. I mean there must be restrictions on what they can do…but hey, maybe I’m wrong.

I think you have to find a balance of having a lifestyle that will lead to longevity and lifestyle that allows you to kick some ass as long as possible as well!

We studied the Buddhist religion in our religion class this year, and we went over the ways in which the people tried to increase their lifespan…one being food restriction. So, this idea has been around for a while, and it probably does tack on a few years onto your life…as long as nothing out of the ordinary happens.

Great, then when they are 100 years old they’ll snap in two because their bones are so weak. If only they did some lifting to increase their bone density

Geez guys come on! Why so many put downs? Granted it’s not the lifestyle we’d choose but you have to respect the dedication and commitment all the same. Most of the comments in this thread are akin to the same type of comments we hear every day:

“Sure he’s huge but wait’ll he’s 70 and his joints are shot from carrying all that weight.”
“You only get one shot at this life, why would you waste it lifting all day?”

The effort and dedicatioin it must take to lead that lifestyle isn’t any different from what it takes to live a “T” lifestyle so at least respect that before insulting and tossing aside their chosen path.

Oh boy, calorie restriction. (CR)

I have looked extensively into this. It is proven, at least in various animals. Monkey testing is still going on, with the CR monkeys much healthier then their eat all they want counterparts.

Also there is at least circumstantial evidence that CR works in humans. I have no doubt considering it has worked for every other animal tested.

CR is simply eating below normal, while making sure you get all the proper nutrients.

Ever been on a diet? Then you have experienced CR.

According to what I have read, life extension seems to follow a fairly simple formula. A 10% reduction results in about a 10% increase in life expectancy. A 20% reduction results in 20% increase. This goes all the way up to 40 - 50%.

Interestingly the animals tested lived long enough to actually eat more food in their life then the control group.

I am most interested in the more recent research in short term CR. It looks like the benefits start occurring almost immediately. Similar benefits also occur from fasting every third day, at least in rats.

Oh yeah. Wolford didn’t invent the idea. Studies have been going on for over 100 years, believe it or not. It has intensified more recently because researchers are trying to find out why. And if they can somehow patent a drug.

Similar results have been achieved by introduction of a “superantioxidant”. Unfortunately while I have seen them discuss this on Discovery channel, I haven’t been able to find any reference to it through the internet, so I don’t even know what this “superantioxidant” is.

I know some research has been done with l-carnitine combined with alpha lipoic acid. The l-carnitine seems to reenergize old mitochondria, and alpha lipoic acid is a powerful mitochondria antioxidant. Other research shows that R-ALA is a much better antioxidant then the S iomer, or the regular racemix alpha lipoic acid.

Taking this to another level, I do believe that it is possible to incorporate CR into a T-man lifestyle, and not do it when you are bulking. In fact I believe (could be wrong) that more muscle might make CR easier.

Great post Mage!

Then again there is 90 year old Jack LaLane who, to my knowledge, never participated in calorie restriction. He did however participate in lots and lots of exercise followed up by natural food and some supplements.

There might be more than one way to get to the same place…who knows.

Oh I imagine lalayne has dieted before.

starving myself? for what? okay, if that was the best way to go about living long, then why dont people in poor countries live mad long? that is the stupidest thing i have read. he can keep on starving, im gonna eat more now. and so what if i die when im 60? it would be the best 60 years ever.

haktOne:
Yes, they have dedication and whatnot just like we do. Yes, their path is different, and just because something is different doesn’t mean we should revile it, but… look at where the path goes, my friend. Our way of dedication pays dividends in all areas of life. We are the ones who make ourselves powerful. They make themselves weak. And they get to be that way for an extra decade.
