On holidays now! Whoohoo!
That’s it, should hold me over for a few days. Flight leaves Toronto @ 9 am Saturday norning. Brief stopover in Edmonton Alberta, then through to British Columbia. Don’t know if/ when I will be back on here again before the competition, but I will be calling Meat the night before for his infamous pep talk. He can fill you in prior… and if I do reeeeaaallly well, I will call him after the event as well.
Good luck! Don’t melt in B.C., heard there’s a heart wave goin on.
Good luck tomorrow Bunny. Hope to read about new PRs after the meet.
I’m holding onto my lucky rabbit’s foot for you big man. Ah wait, shit…I hope it wasn’t a relative…
Holding my breath… hope to hear good things…

A PR on the killer deadlift he did in Belle River? I can hardly wait to hear the details. His medal is very pretty. I wish he’d stop posting food porn on FB and put up some numbers ![]()
This is kind of like the joke: “How do you put an a@#hole in suspense? I’ll tell ya later”
LOL!! Sorry guys and gals… had one hell of a trip home last night… 4 hour flight turned into a 10 hour nightmare. There was a hell of a storm here in Ontario, couldn’t land in Toronto (circled the airport for over an hour… &*^%$!) so they put us down in London (Ontario) and we sat on the tarmack for over an hour and a half… then we took off back to Toronto, which is a 20 minute flight… circled the airport for another hour… then landed… blah blah blah… just bullshit all around. Never got home until 3 am.
The BC trip itself was awesome, had a great time and met some fantastic people from all over the world. I will cut to the chase now…
THE WEIGH IN
After spending a week with my cousin in the Comox Valley… I put on a few pounds from all the beer, great food and general inactivity. The day before weigh ins, I stepped on the scale and was sitting at 280 pounds… oops! I did not eat anything all day… drank water and coffee.
I have never had to cut weight before, so… just did what I have seen people do on tv and read about. The day of the weigh ins, got up in the morning… went for a swim and then hit the sauna in the hotel. I was in and out into the pool about 5 or 6 times… about 2 hours total time… stepped on the scale (in wet shorts) and weighed 272 pounds! Holy crap! I dropped like 8 pounds in 2 hours!
So, went back to my room, had a little water and some fruit… then walked to the weigh ins about 2.5 kilometres away… and watched some of the lifting (under 110 kilo guys) and waited to get weighed. Had some more water, granola bar… coffee… I was starving and getting pretty damned cranky.
2 hours later, weighed in at 272.5 pounds, set my bench rack heights and gave them my openers for bench and deadlift. They checked my lifting equipment/ clothing etc, all good. Met some of my competition, tried to understand some Swedish and Icelandic languages… managed to find a German guy who was able to translate, so we had an interesting conversation.
I then met up with the bride… and proceeded to eat my way back to the hotel room. I was like Bunzilla… roaming the streets of Vancouver with little regard for people who got in my way… pizza… spaghetti… mussells… ice cream… smoked salmon sandwich… then got back to the hotel room and the bride had bought me this 2 pound cinnamon bun with icing… oh man… that was gone in about 30 seconds.
I should have stepped on the scale before going to bed that night, but… I was in a food coma.
DAY OF THE COMPETITION
Got up nice and early after a restless/ nervous sleep… had a coffee and some protein bars and some fruit.
I called Meat… he calmed me down, gave me some words of wisdom and then put me in the right frame of mind… thanks again Boss… love ya man!!!
Jumped in a cab and went to the event venue… found out there was 30 competitors… 2 flights of 15 guys and I was in the second flight. 5 guys in my category- 40-45 years old under 125 kilos. Had the rules briefing… and proceeded to get ready.
Bench #1- I think I opened at 340 pounds… can’t remember exactly… but no probs, 3 white lights.
Bench #2- 355 pounds (5 lb meet PR)… felt like it was all front delt and tricep, no lat activation, 3 white lights though
Bench #3- 370 pounds- felt good coming down, touched to high on my chest, started to press and chicken winged it… no lift… shit!
So, going into the deadlift portion I was in second place… leader was about 20 kilos (44 pounds) ahead of me. 3rd place guy right on my heels.
My opening deadlift was the heaviest by far… I was gonna open with 600 pounds… but the 1st place guy’s opening deadlift was only 485 pounds. 3d place guy opener was 450 pounds… I was like WTF? Are these guys playing possum with me?
So, to be conservative, I changed my opener to 585 or something just to see what the other guys would do, they all hit there lifts and so did I.
2nd deadlift- 605 lbs- no probs- 3 whites. First place guys 2nd deadlift 515 or something… so I am now in first place
3rd deadlift- 635 lbs- 5 pound meet PR- Came up pretty easy, I should have went 650… 2 whites. One judge told me he was not sure my knees were locked. They were… you can judge for yourselves when the videos load.
I can’t remember what the other guys pulled for their 3rd lifts, but it was not more than 550 pounds.
I was hoping for a 1,000 pound total, ended up with a 990 pound total. Not too bad for an old fat guy, and good enough to bring home the Gold. More importantly, I had a great time and met some great guys and learned a great deal.
I then called a couple of friends, family… and Meat. We had a good laugh. Then… I stuffed my face, had a couple of beer with the other competitors… and watched some live entertainment.
The next World Police and Firefighter Games are in New York in 2011… I will definitely be ready and much more improved 2 years from now. Gotta defend my belt doncha know!!
2013 games are in Ireland… 2015 games are in Washington D.C… Hey Meat! Want a border for a few days lol!?
Thanks to everyone who gave me the encouragement and their words of wisdom and experience. You guys are awesome!

Yeah… you are probably right… lol!
Here is a question for anyone and everyone… what do I do now after the meet? Do I take time off, and if so… how long? I was thinking 4-5 days or so.
Way to go Bunny. You did damn good. This was great to hear
