Most of my plates at home are iron. My “bumpers” are from Academy and are clearly not intended to be dropped to the concrete from overhead.
I want to start O-lifting at home though, so I think I need better plates. I’ve checked Rogue and Titan, Titan have some more affordable “economy” bumpers. Any reviews on these? Quality? OK for dropping to concrete?
I honestly don’t think you’ll find a single bumper plate that was ever intended to be dropped onto concrete. They’re designed to be dropped onto a lifting platform. Concrete is going to beat up even the hardiest of plates.
Is there a possibility of laying down some sort of padding? A horse stall mat or patio paver, to say nothing of a silencer pad? They will help extend longevity.
Great point, i can lay something down. Would still want softer plates than what i have though!
I have titan, rogue, Pendlay/MuscleDriver and Strengthshop, and they’re all answering the mail. The strengthshop ones are my least favorite of the group, but they all handle the training load well enough. I have one set of crumb rubber 25s I got at Sports Authority, which I don’t even think is around anymore, and they’re cracked around the metal rings, which has turned me off from crumb rubber in general.
Wright equipment makes all of rogues bumpers. Might can save some cash and get the exact same thing from them. All my bumpers are Wright and have held up fine (I don’t drop them on concrete though).
