sweet last deadlift looked light… great job on peaking at the right moment
Dave B and I were there to cheer him on . . . no doubt that helped . . .
Congrats again, Dog.
Thanks for the kind words Strick , TB and Cav
My gosh. I got chills watching that. You did so awesome!
The crazy thing is that everything except for your last bench looked really easy. That’s the only lift that it looked like you had to really grind out.
Squat form looks so pretty. And deep. You practically sit in the hole. Long pauses during the bench! NASA allows the head up? Didn’t know that. I need to learn all the NASA stuff since that’s my next meet.
Major congratulations.

Thanks Snap!
It was weird yesterday…The way things was looking I figured the last bench should not have been a grinder. If anything the last Deadlift should have…But DAMN I think I might have had another 20 -25 lbs in me. Where that came from I have no idea.
Yeah NASA allows for heads up. Its not in the rule book its a year or two old. They allow it due to all the guys with rotator cuff issues. Another thing about NASA they will allow for a 4th attempt in a Meet if its for a record but its doesn’t count towards your Meet total.
Really nice performance Bulldog. You had some strength left in you for both the squat and dead, too! And to grind through that 3rd attempt bench like that was awesome. Again, great lifting.

Awesome

It may be my imagination, but it seemed like the judge waited just a tad longer to call press on Bulldog than the others.
As for the low squat, listen carefully. The person yelling “UP!” is Bulldog’s wife. She told me how he trained her to call depth.
She and the 2 Bullpups were there, Dave and I got to meet them.

Thanks man. To be honest I was not expecting the third bench to be such a bitch. I figured the last dead would have had that honor, since its become a pain in the ass lift for me.

Meet write up Part 1
Im going to divide this write up into two parts. The first is just going to cover my actual performance. The second I want to cover my feelings regarding the Meet itself.
First off Im fairly happy with my performance., It was better then I expected I’m not going to state like I usually do that I could have done better. Pretty much the moon and the stars where lined up right and the Gods of Iron must of liked me that day.
Well going into it I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had made the bone headed decision the previous Sunday to eliminate a crap load of carbohydrates from my diet to drop some water weight. Not to make the next lowest weight class but to just improve my coefficient to place higher in the rankings in the Master class in NASA. This was risking since I’ve done this in the past to make a weight class and its bit me in the ass. In all I was able to drop 13 lbs nothing major. Unfortunately I was feeling the sudden drop of carbs about mid week. From Wednesday until weigh in on Saturday I was feeling fatigued and slightly brain dead . Along with feeling as if my legs were made out of rubber. Again, I got lucky that they where allowing guys to weigh in 4 hours before the originally scheduled weigh in on Saturday night for the Sunday lifters. Which may not seem like a big deal but I feel it was in this case.
Squats: Well the only issue I had was that all of us guys whom were actually doing a Full Meet were being rushed on are warm ups. Luckily it didnt cause any real issues come " Go" time.
1st attempt: 474 …no issues went up easy
2nd attempt: 513…Meet PR. Ok, I had to decide to stick with original planned 3rd attempt or bump up another 15 for 550. I played it safe and stuck with my original attempt.
3rd attempt: 535…Meet PR; I might have gotten the 550 if I took it but Im fine with my decision not to try for it.
Bench:
1st attempt: 355…easy
2nd attempt: 386…not too bad, noticed I was having issues on the eccentric portion
3rd attempt: 413…Meet PR; lost tightness had to grind the bastard up.
For the record NASA allows 4th attempts if you get your third. Only “IF” the fourth is a record attempt, but it doesnt count towards your Meet total. Going by what I was doing in training towards the Meet I played with going for a American record on the forth. But the third didn’t go up as easy as it should have. So I played it smart and didn’t risk tearing myself up. Besides this is the first time in three Meets where I hadn’t tweaked one of my Lats while benching.
Dead lift:
1st attempt: 474…blew it up
2nd attempt: 518 …easy
3rd attempt: 551…Tied Meet PR, had lbs. left in the tank
I have no clue what the hell was going on with these!!! The reason for this maybe was my upper back wasn’t destroyed for a change from benching. Out of all my lifts I didn’t expect this one would have been the one that I would have left weight remaining on the platform.
Well I met all my goals which I set out to do when I started peaking for this Meet.
- Exceded all my numbers from the Last Meet in October. Over 89 more pounds on my total
- Went 9 for 9 which was the first time ever.
- Set 4 different Meet PR’s
All in all I’m a happy doggie, now onto the next one in October.
Congratulations again on an outstanding meet. The last bench attempt was great work- had every reason to miss it but you willed it up. That lift set you up great for the deadlift- after you gutted it out there was no way you weren’t going 9 for 9. Deadlifts were all very strong- 600+ in October my friend.

Thanks Dave, also thanks for coming out ( That goes for you also Cav). 600? HMMMM might be pushing it. I guess we will see. You’ll be doing push/pull wont you?
My pleasure, Dog. Springfield’s just an hour drive away and it would have been a shame to miss it.
Damn Bulldog, awesome lifting #s wise, and great form on the squats and deadlifts.
The fact that it’s a family affair is really nice to see as well.
Where’s the obligatory T-Nation pic? ![]()
Congrats on a great meet Bulldog. You made it look easy. Way to represent the Over 35 Crew.

That’s my plan. I won’t be benching 400+ like you but hopefully I won’t embarass myself.

Dave, just trade bodies with me and you’ll see real embarrassment.
