Are you checking to make sure his form is OK? I’m asking because building strength is a very slow process. It took me about 20 years of hard training before I could bench 145, your kid’s been at it, what, a couple of months?
Bullpup is keeping after it too. I am looking forward to my youngest being able to lift with me.
Thanks, Happy to say that BP got awhile before he will catch up to me.

Nice work. You have him doing full body everytime? How frequent are his workouts?
Yesterday my kid: Bench 3 sets of 80 x 7
pulldown 2 sets of 55 x 8
DB row 20 x 10 - 1st time
DB military 2 sets 15 x 10
No DL’s sore quad
Nice work by your Boy…
Yeah ,im still tweaking things. Haven’t really gotten to serious as of yet due to the oldest just finishing his track season. Right now im looking at three days a week for him. With basically some form of whole body routine each session. At his age and strength level recovery isn’t a issue for him at this point.

concerning paused bench on the bar descent how slow or fast should the bar go down? On the pause on the chest should it just slightly touch the chest or have it rest heavier? Any cues to help leg activation on the ascent? Also bar path, straight up or towards the rack?
Man its very frustrating to know that my paused bench is like 25 lbs less than touch n go, I should expect it but I could really use your help…
Pleas lmk how much I owe you for this consultation lol

Cav come on man, I think you should know that he is under his dads tutelage and shouldnt have to question or be concerned about form as I am sure his father’s main concern is safety for his son.

Cav, I know that you have had to work your ass off for your gains, but strength gains, especially at Bullpup’s age, are not that slow. That is not to say that it doesn’t take work, nor that he will go up 20# a week. He will likely, as I did and I am sure others have, hit periods where maxes can go up 5# a week, for a few weeks…slow down then ramp back up.
He is at a GREAT age for gains and, fortunately, has a great coach that can help him maximize the opportunity.

Cav, 145 after 20 years, really?
I hit 145 after a good year of training and the surpassed it, and I’m a girl.
I think our Bulldog knows what he is doing and how to instruct his son
Interesting stat about the weight difference in touch and go vs. paused. I try to explain to non-PLers that competitive benching is different than what they see/do in the gym. But most people don’t understand how hard it is to hold the weight immobile on the chest before getting the press command. Removing the momentum makes all the difference.

Tag me in bulldog!
I have seen competition benches go down fast, some go down slow. It sounds dumb, but whatever allows you to do it the best.
The superman bar path is the best i.e. up and back towards the rack.

Finally!!! Someone who realizes that 145 after 20 yrs is unusual!!! Yes, Rondastarr, that’s my story. And I’ve been straining and sweating every inch of the way. Have improved diet over the years, got smarter about training, but it’s still an uphill battle. Current bench max is 160. What’s really weird is all the people telling me I’m normal, don’t worry about it.
You’re right, the Pup is in good hands. Bulldog knows what he’s doing.

Thank god you wrote this, sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who feels t-bars in my low back.
Weird experiences in gym: talking with guy, he commends me on doing deadlifts. He says he can’t do it, low back problems. Later I see him doing T bar rows. “What about your back?” “Oh no, this just works my lats . . .”
