Bulldog and Bullpup Log Part 2

9/29/11
Warm up: allot

Seated db press: 4 x 10 x some weight…just wanted to get some blood in my shoulders

Pull downs : 4 x 8 x SW

push downs : 3 x 12 X SW

Shrugs : 3 x 15 x 315

Arm curls (ez bar) 3 x 10 x SW

Bench sit ups: 3 x 20

Left shoulder and bicep are still a little sore. So I just messed around and just went light just to get blood in the areas and just to keep it mobile.

Well I must say that Ive have learned one thing on this go around. Is that my normal 9 day training scheme is definitely optimal for my old ass in regards to recovery. How im doing it right now is alright for the lower half since im doing squats and deads on the same day. But doing bench on Mondays and on Thursdays doing over head pressing and heavy tricep work is to much for my shoulders in too short of a time. Of course i would have stuck with my normal scheme if I hadn’t been knocked off schedule due to the 4 week layoff. Oh well.

I might be doing something right…
Funny exchange from my oldest (Bullpup) the eight grader.

Bullpup: Dad you really need to cut back.

Me: What…? the hell are you talking about?( yes I used hell hes 13, plus I was totally lost in what the hell he was talking about)

Bullpup: Well my friend Spencer seen you at the game before we took the field. He said you look like a cross between a Grizzly Bear and a Gorilla.

Me: ??

OK. I don’t know whether to be insulted or take pride in that.

And this is a problem why?

Good question…Ive never asked him.

It isnt the first time that Ive been referred to as a gorilla. One of the guys at work referrers to me as Magilla the Gorilla.

Well im pretty much ready to get this up coming Meet freaking over with. I’m pretty much as ready as im going to be, squats and bench are good to go. Deads right now I could give a crap less right now since its in the toilet anyway. Luckily the left shoulder and bicep are starting to respond to the ice and ibuprofen. So by Meet time they should be 100%.
As soon as this one is done Ill take a week off and Jump into the Juggernaut system. After really looking at it. It does have its pros and cons . The hardest part for me will be the first two waves. With the focus being on more volume and less intensity. This will definitely be a shock to my system more so my overall conditioning. On the bright side it will be less stressful on my actual joints along with the fact that it might put some lean mass on me.The hardest part is going to be mental due to the fact that I wont be working with 90% plus for awhile on my main lifts.

Like Ive talked about in the past lack of confidence isn’t his problem…unfortunately.

Strangely enough that’s how I felt.

Stranger still two days later my hamstrings and glutes are saying that.

OK ,in all reality it was a little heavy and it wasn’t a complete walk in the park. But one day…

warm up: you bet ya

Bench: bar x 20
95 x 10
135 x 5
205 x 5
245 x 3
305 x 1
illegal width bench: 2 x 6 x 250

Bar front raises: 2 x 5 x 50

Hammer curls: 2 x 10 x some weight

Band pull aparts : 2 x 20

Stand band crunches: 5 x 10

Well there a few bright spots. The shoulder and bicep is almost cleared up. Thanks to icing and ibuprofen. The only concern is that im noticing a little weakness in the left arm right now.
But im not going to worry about it right now. It is what it is. Another thing… backing off like im doing right now I notice im starting to feel pretty damn aggressive right now. Since when im training half way hard I tend to burn it up. Right now im just starting to stockpiling it. Could get interesting come GO time.

Well im pretty much in a shit mood today. As I stated yesterday im getting pretty stocked piled on aggression right now. On top of that Ive had a head ache on and off today not to mention my right bicep was a little achy, which really pissed me off. of course it didnt help that I stayed up to late to watch the Colts get there asses handed to them again…plus im pretty sure my period is about to start.

As much as I have been trying not to put pressure on myself in regards to this upcoming freaking Meet .I’m finding im having a hard time doing so. This in itself doesn’t surprise me since I tend to get high strung over certain things. What I will say is that if I don’t match or surpass my training max’s in the squat and bench my head will explode during the Meet.

I cant think of a reason I shouldn’t. Since I haven’t gone nuts on my working sets and have been stopping most of the time with reps left in the tank. Hopefully Ill stay the course during the Meet and stick with my game plan and not go crazy on my third attempts. If anything I can at least go 9 for 9.

What weight class do you plan to be in? And can you post a video of your head exploding?

This also works for man periods and it’s good for a laugh.

Ill be in the 275 class on the light side since im not going to mess dropping weight and doing the 242’3 next time around I will, but right now Ive been enjoying life to much and have been a lazy bastard on watching what I eat.

Sure ill make sure the wife post it hopefully she wont have much trouble wiping my grey matter off the camera.
