Bulking: Clean or Eat Everything in Sight

Hey guys

Lifted for 2 years before T-Nation, was pretty much shit. It’s been a half year since I’ve been here and I’ve gained around 20 lbs. I’m 5’8" and my goal is 180, lean. I’m right now at 150, not too fat, not too lean.

My question is this, I’ve been doing a bulk, as I know its necessary. But, a lot of people say to only eat clean foods, however its really hard to get 4,000+ calories in on clean foods. Right now my diet is mostly high carbs and high protein, with fats. I eat pasta, pizza, not “clean foods”, along with “clean” foods like fruits, oatmeal, a shit ton of protein, take my BCAA’s, Protein Shakes, Surge Recovery, Flameout, etc. I have gained in the past month about 6-7 lbs, which is a lot more then I used to, and this is after adopting this new semi clean, semi dirty bulk. I was wondering what your guys’ opinion on this was.

If it is working, then perfect! It sounds like it is working.

Did you take before measurements? If you gained 6-7 pounds and your waist went up 2 inches, then that tells you a little more. If didn’t go up or went up a .5 inch, then carry on.

I’m no expert mate but reading the articles on here I would suggest bulking as clean as possible.

The main question I guess is are you taking any steroids? If so, you might get a different answer.

I would prefer to bulk cleanly every time. You need to read the articles on here, there are some good ones.
