Spidey - well, as I was getting warmed up on bench, I was thinking back to previous sessions, and thinking how often times when I’m mid set, my feet slip out from under me to a wider, more flat-footed position from which I feel I can generate more power. So I started my warmups like this and it felt MONEY. Hopefully this leads to positive trends. It’s also much easier for me to get into position, lol.

IIRC (and I might not be…) the wider & flat footed placement feeling better is the major reason Andy Boltons bench has suddenly increased 100 odd pounds in not too long after he’s been training over 20 years for powerlifting… if I remember right he talks about “thinking of it like a pyramid” and the stronger/bigger then base the more strength/stability it has.
Some powerlifter feel free to jump on this if I’m talking shit but I think this is what he said in one of his recent mailing list/website posts…

Well the wider base thing makes sense, I guess my question then is how do manage any leg drive? maybe I’m just stupid for not being able to understand this. lol.

I still feel like I’m getting leg drive. I’ll film as soon as I can (hopefully next week). My feet aren’t just casually placed on the ground - they are dug in, just wide, toes pointed out IIRC, and power being driven through my heels. Try it for yourself.

I feel you on still getting used to leg drive. But I think you make a good point, perhaps whether you on your toes or not is simply personal preference… as long as you can push through your heels optimally flat/on-toes doesn’t matter. But then what do I know, my bench sucks donkey dick
