Brute has a retardedly deep squat. She is very flexible. She’s just recovering from a tweak.
I look up when I squat. If I tried looking down, disaster would reign. I guess it’s personal preference, but I can’t imagine squatting effectively if I were looking down.
PMPM is right that Brute has a fabulously deep natural raw squat. She will have no problem exhibiting it at the meet.

I know the vids are high, PMPM’s right! i got a bit of a mind game i’m playing with now since i know i can do it–which i think is the hardest thing right now to push off, but i’m also healing from weirdo back injury. I was just really excited that i got that far with those #'s. Just being under that wt helped cheer me up a bit ![]()
I will try snd go easy peasy first attempt, I need to tape some more and get comfortable again to see how much i can manage. it will be much much lower #'s. But i’m totally going to try my best for the 3rd.
OH–and drinking all this water is AWFUL. note to self don’t do it too fast, killer head ache. I want mad amounts of pretzels now :{
You’ll get used to the water. By the time you cut it (if you even need to, your weight appears to be plenty fine), 2 gallons will be nothing.
Just chiming in, you do have a naturally really deep squat, so I don’t think you have much to worry abotu come meet time. I remember watching vids of you where you just keep going down and I’m thinking holy shit how will she ever get out of that hole, and then YOU DO. Major motivation.

Have you ever played around with it before? If not you should really give it a shot, you don’t have anything to lose. For me it made a big difference in hip drive with the chin down. Try it body weight and with an empty bar while alternating between looking up\down so you can really concentrate on your hips.
Anyway, hope my comments didn’t come off the wrong way Brute. Your squat numbers are awesome! I was looking for some strong female squat vids to show my gf that I just started training and thought I’d chime in with some tips that helped me a lot.

but to answer your question I’ve had to tinker with my squat quite a bit. for years was doing them very strangely and it was only this last January that i actually started from scratch and had to relearn everything.

I think that I can drive my hips farther with my chin down, but I’m still trying to do it the “conventional” way and do it chin up. But my hips are probably the #1 thing on my mind when I squat so when I look down, I’m not looking at the floor so much as focusing. When the BB is under 100-120, I can easily focus on posture and hips, but when the weight gets on, my mind becomes one track.

Not only that but if the first is deep and pristine, you’ve kind of set the tone for what what they see on the remainder of them.

well, i filmed some squats yesterday, hoping to see if i can get a nice deep first attempt. i’ll post em when i get a decent internet connection.
I think i want to do a nice 225 for the first, then figure what i want for the 2nd–maybe 245 or 255–the kilo versions etc. I’d like to try a ballsy last attempt–just because i really want it, so if i fail then that’s fine–tried hard at least.
I still need to figure my dl attempts…i’m not going to be very excited to do that. I probably won’t be a s lucky as i was in the first meet, but what–ev! my bench has got to better then the 110 i got in march --but not by much!! AH HA HA!!
good luck at the meet Brute…I agree take your last warm up weight as your opener and sink it. I normally go for a 5# PR on 2nd and go all out (within reason) for the 3rd.

well, today i tried to figure out my dl attempts.And i’m still not really sure but i think i will for starters go with the 275 like i did last time. then 295, then maybe 310. i’m not feeling too confident in my dl’s but thankfully with that belt its very helpful! PROPS TO SNAPPER!!!i am happy that i didn’t use it until 285 this time–last time i had to put it on with 255 :{–so there’s that to be excited about. I’m hopeful that i can regain my strength in the next months–i’m in no rush. ![]()

I’d open at 245, but I tend to open slightly higher than super light for a few reasons. First, I have a difficult time making significant jumps. I could go 225 245 265 285 easy, and get them all, but going 225 285 would kill me. Second, I have a massive ego. Third, I’ve been doing this for a few years and I know what works for me.
