Brotherhood of Iron 2.0

I had a brutal olympic lifting session tonight, 1 hour of technique work followed by, 5 work sets of snatch high-pulls and 8 work sets of front squats (with a pause at the bottom) and some abs. Felt great.

Wow josh, you’ve really been putting that weight on, how many lbs has it been?

Oh I started this bulk at like 182lbs…I’m around 195 currently for morning weight, which is what I always go by. The 202 was today in my gym clothes and shoes at the time of my training (around 5:45pm)…so there’s lots of food volume that goes on throughout the day.

Sounds like you’re doing awesome with that bulk big fella.

Crimson, do you have a coach for the Oly lifts or what?

Yep, and he’s a sadistic fella :p. I train at an olympic lifting gym on tuesdays and thursdays, so that’s where I get my coaching.

Wednesday 9/3/08

Deadlift

warmup
bar x10
135 x8
225 x3
275 x1

work sets

6x3 @315

It’s weird doing 1 exercise and leaving the gym, but I’m not complaining. It’s not like I feel like I didn’t do work.

I did all my warm-ups and my first work set without straps. My grip started to go in the second set, so I got the straps out and used them for the last 5 sets. I think I’ll start working with my Captains Of Crush grippers on Thursdays to improve my grip and allow enough time to recover before my next deadlift session (every Wednesday).

Not much else to say about this. Bench and squat Friday and Monday. 6x4 deadlifts @315 next week.

2 out of the last 2 back days have been fucked up, but I ended up finishing hard and it was good. I’m pretty reliant on straps for my heavier sets and I forgot them… and I seriously looked for 10 minutes and no one in the gym had them. Sad.

Wednesday - Back day baby

Sternum pullups (playing with new things)

BW x 12
BW x 10
BW x 8
BW x 8

Rack pulls (just below knee level)

225lbs x 15
315lbs x 10
405lbs x 4… grip was making these a pain in the ass. Looked for straps, no dice. So I just moved on.

Bent-over rows, much better form, controlled

225lbs x 12
225lbs x 12
225lbs x 12

DB Rows, “kroc” style

70lbs x 10
90lbs x 10
100lbs x 25
100lbs x 20/80lbs x 8 (drop set)

Lat pulldowns behind the neck (didn’t like these)

some weight x 12
heavier x 8
heavier x 8

Attempted to do a DC-style lat stretch on the chinup bar but without straps, didn’t really work out.

DC-style calf raises on leg press

2 sets x agony.

The first set was long as shit, took like 3 minutes. Second set was death, I had a few tears haha, lovely.

Notes: Weird fucking workout. I need straps on back day as I said, so it started off weird. Hadn’t done DB rows in awhile and the powerlifting team was in the powerlifting room which has the heavier DBs up to 150’s, so I had to make due with 100’s. With straps I think I could get 120 or more out for a heavy work set. I saw stars at the end of the drop set. It’s rather cleansing, like 20-rep squats. Good stuff. I didn’t feel BTN lat pulldowns but my training partner does so I tried them. The sternum pullups also didn’t go as well as I wanted so I think I’m going to go back to normal chinups. My legs are still fucking destroyed from yesterday walking around campus, especially DOWN stairs, was an absolute bitch today.

That is all. Rock that shit boys.

Week 1

Workout #2
Deadlift 6x3x245
135x10
185x8
205x6
235x4
245x3,3,3,3,3,3

Seated DB press
60x10,10,10

Standing BB curl
70x10
80x8,7

Incline DB overhead extension
60x12,12,12

Good workout tonight. It took my back a few sets to warm-up properly but it was worth the extra time. Last thing I need is my back to go out on me. I rested a timed 2 minutes between my working sets. Also, once I spoke to Nate, I added delts, biceps and triceps work so I can have a full day off in between these workouts and maintain my strength in those muscles. I didn’t time the sets but did rest 2 minutes between the muscles.

Keep up the good work all.

Being a meathead is overrated.

You can be muscular/athletic and actually have a brain.

Who said any person in this thread is just a meathead ?

As far as I know, most of the people in this thread are either still in school, or have careers that take quite a bit of intelligence.

If you feel like being negative, please take it somewhere else.

Thanks for adding this valuable and heretofore unknown information. You can rest peacefully now, knowing you have made a valuable contribution to this thread. [/sarcasm]

You clearly have missed the point of this thread. Guys posting in here have a multitude of goals but a common desire to better themselves through weight training. Some guys are leaning out, others are bulking, still others are pursuing pure strength. We are in here to help each other and learn from one another. I would hope someone who has been a member of T-Nation for as long as you have would understand this and encourage this type of community-focused attitude.

Could we have had our first troll of the thread? Don’t feed the troll JB. Ignore them and they will go away.

Damn, every time I hit the gym I am feeling a bit stronger. Here’s the session from last night. PR ALERT!

A1 - Bench - PR!
235x4
235x4
235x4
235x4
235x4

I’ve never repped 235 for that many sets. Didn’t have a spot, every rep came up strong! Again, my ass was coming off the bench a bit but it’s getting better.

A2 - chins
4,4,4,4,3,2
these are getting better

B1 - dumbbell flyes
40x8
40x8
40x8
40x8
40x8

B2 - close grip lat pulldowns
80x6
80x6
80x6
80x6
80x6

Solid training session, went home and made myself a nice post workout shake.

keep on truckin’ brothers

Nice stuff dre. Good to see that bench coming along steadily.

Here’s today’s ME squat session:

Front Squats:
125x4
175x3
225x2
265x1
295x1
325x1
295x1/1/1

RDLs:
285x4
365x10

Weighted crunches and side planks after, and that was it. I’d never tried going above the mid 200s on front squats before, it was nice to see I could hit 325 for a rep.

I have no doubt in my mind that 315 on bench will come before the end of the year.

Nice front squat man, that’s beastly.

I’m home from school for the week with tonsillitis, so I’m gonna see if I can hit up the gym. Once football’s over, I’m gonna go on a bulk and get up to an optimistic 200.

dre, nice bench session. I’m hoping to be moving that kind of weight in the next few months. My bench is easily my weakest lift, proportionally to my squat and dead.

H4M, nice work on the front squats. That’s some serious weight for that lift.

Sumo Deadlift
315 x 5

Big time PR

The majority of the people on this website have always been, and still are, meatheads.

Lower class hicks from the sticks with very simple tastes.

That’s who T-Nation caters to.
